rear license plate

Being used to the European (wide) license plates, I cant stand having that ridiculous US narrow style of plates for the rear of the car. It looks awful and depreciates the appearance of the car. Its like going back to a cathode ray TV set from and HDTV. Is there a place where one can get a custom wide (Euro) plate with the same number and use it in place of the official state plate? Is this legal?

From what I know you have to run the state issued plate or it won't be legal unfortunately.. What I did was put a Euro plate behind the CA plate.

And then cut the top and bottom of the US plate so that it fits in the holder. Would that be OK with the authorities?

Nope.. You have the registration stickers on the top of the plate.
