Used 1-2 yr old 650 GC or new M3
I asked the same question in M3 forum and of course I get 90% response for M3 and all the reasons why. But to be fair I wanted to ask 6 series forum and see what response I would get. I will be coming off a tune 335 with basically all upgrades possible minus upgraded turbos. I'm not sure if I want to do any more tuning on next vehicle, maybe some cosmetic only. So I would like a vehicle that runs well stock. I don't track and I need 4 doors. I thought about 1-2 year old M5 but reviews aren't great so I am hesitant. Any thoughts? I like them all and my budget is $65-$75k.

IMHO, a 3 series (even the M3) is a boy's car, a 6 series is a man's car.
Depends on a lot of things, though....do you need 4 doors? I get the impression a 650 isn't going to be significantly slower than a M3. Why not go for a 2-year old M5 and get the best of both worlds?

I also had a previous gen M6....I don't find the current one any less better. The M5/M6 had the same engines, etc. last generation and this generation.
I haven't driven the M5 but can't see how it can be worse....a lot of AMG owners got rid of their cars to get the M5, that says something. If you are going to pay that money for the M3, that car isn't going to be anywhere near worth that in 6 months. The M5 and GC have already depreciated a little so I feel it's a better chance to get into an awesome car. The M3 is a cool car....don't get me wrong....but why get one when you can step into the M5?

Just be aware that the GC is 16.5 feet long. It is one massive vehicle. So be ready to move from something nimble to something...boat like? You can't beat the looks and the interior on the GC however.

Have had 2 M3's and also a 550i and now have gone to a 650ix GC and can say it is mile different than a 3 series. Is a lot more refined vehicle and yes luxury that the M3 does not have. Is it fast? Yes it is. Add a tune (I did the Dinan package) and it will get up with the best of them and be a sub 4-5 sec car. Suspension is the biggest thing you'll feel/notice...its not a track car and not something you just toss around like an M3...but can be tuned so that it will perform when you want it and with the best of them. However no matter how good the tune and what you did it is a bigger car and you can't get over that part...you just get used to it and drive a bit more carefully! LOL But if you want something that you won't see everyday on the street and that looks good from day one..the GC has it there.
However must add this updated: I've modded mine a bit..Dinan ECU/Intercoolers and Eissenman exhaust and its fast but I do feel something is amiss and missing in the car compared to my 5 series and previous M3's I've owned. Overall grades on the 650ix IMHO. Exclusive=yes, stylish=yes. Luxurious=yes. Sporty=looks/yes. Performance=hmm sometimes. Nimble=No. Fast=yes. Comfortabe=very much so. Overweight/large=very much so. Resale=OMG you'd be surprised unless it is a M6 GC. Not so great! On the other hand..the M6 GC does slay dragons and probably vettes too I hear! Get one if you can.

The new M3s I've sat in (with full leather) are pretty darn nice. Not quite like a 6-series, but pretty nice overall - especially compared to the previous gen.

Go drive a M5 and then decide...no comparison to what your other options are in that price range, IMO. Take serious advantage of the significant depreciation on a 12-18 month old M5, you're laughing all the way!

I noticed you went from blue 2013 M5 to 2013 Silverstone. You must really like the M5.

My friends call my 6 a boat. Whenever I park it, they always say just docked up the boat. It is low too, lower than a non comp M5. So you have to be careful of that front bumper. |

Wow. You folks are making me feel very old. My old 1970 Pontiac GTO (a mid-size car back then) was 202.9 inches long, whereas my M6GC is 197.2 inches long. For some reason I don't feel like the GC is all that big.
Of course, what I like most about my current "muscle car" compared to my old one (other than the fact that the 0-60 time of the old car was a pitiful 6.6 sec) is that the M6GC can also turn and stop! |

My friend and I saw 2 F02 7s drag racing. 1 was a 760 and the other an Alpina. My friend turns to me and says," I didn't they allowed yacht racing on the street." To this day, I still chuckle thinking about that comment.

I've even taken my heavyweight GT to the drag strip once, it actually surprised most though, and many thought it was a slammed X6 M

I vote for M3 I did test drive both but I didn't want to wait for the M3 allocation (build slot) and the 640GC drove much much better than I thought it would. Having said that, once my lease is up, I'll probably get a M3. I'm strictly using the car for commuting so might want to take that into consideration as well.

I thought I might add a bit of subjectivity, owning a new M3 and having spent time in the 6GC. First, M3 is faster, more agile, lighter, and really overall performance wise better. It is not to discount the 6, but to me, the M3 is that good. Now for purposes of matter, are you tracking? What are your local roads like? And what's your family situation? Answer those questions, and think about what (I feel) the M3 offers, and you have my subjective opinion.
