Test Driving M6 GC

What would you tell somebody test driving an M6 GC? I'm going over today, I think. They have a white one, which i'm not interested in; plus I want a manual transmission, which they don't/won't ever stock. But any tips on things I should try during a test drive? Like alternate configurations/ settings that might be interesting?

make sure its pointed straight and nothing in your way for a long distance if you decide to punch it is what I would tell someone. Even with 1/2 the controls off it will still get away from you if it has half a chance

M1/M2 aren't anything unless they are set. Set sport plus setting across the board and you will know what its all about (if the dealer lets you).

My M1 and M2 buttons were already set from factory when I picked up my car, but I did European Delivery so the guys at the Welt may have done it for me. When I test drove the M4 here, the M1 and M2 were already set by the dealer.

What's the current setting of your M2?

The CA would not allow me to "punch it" due to the break in period, therefore, I found a pre-owned with 15k miles at a different dealer and test drove it. I spent a solid 20 minutes taking it to it's edge. Obviously I was impressed so I bought the new, untouched M6GC. I am still in the break in period waiting until I can push it like I did when I drove the pre-owned one.

FWIW, Niello BMW in Sacramento, CA still has a Silverstone/Silverstone 6MT '15 M6GC sitting in inventory. It's been there since early last year, so you may be able to swing a good deal on it.

And yeah, it's really easy to drive fast in the car. It can be quite a surprise when the speed warning pops up on the HUD.

Good catch. with 20k off MSRP and current numbers, he can lease this car with less than 1300

I inquired on this before I began the process for my 16. They weren't budging from the 130K tag, so I scoffed back and got my current deal I shared with you

As much as I love manuals, it's not for the m6 drove both, the gears are too long, the car is too heavy, really wasn't a fan of it, on another hand new m4 manual was a blast !

Im on the opposite end of this spectrum- Completely comes down to personal choice. I too have driven both, and I would never go DCT. My 2014 m6 I took over the lease of is MT and is an absolute monster once you get over the learning curve and really get familiar with the clutch/gears. Nothing like power shifting in such a beast.

I was considering ordering my 2016 M6 I have on the way in DCT- but after test driving a DCT with comp package- opted for another MT. Just wayyyy too much fun. The m4 mt feels like a total down grade coming from daily driving the m6.

You're confirming my plan to get a manual. I drove the DCT, but I know the manual will just let me have more fun with that engine. I'll leave the lightning-fast perfect shifts to the robots.

You won't regret it. I'd be lying if I didn't say there wasn't a learning curve (what the gentleman above me said is correct- if you're not accustomed to the clutch/gears- it will feel weird at first) but honestly, after a few days of learning the sweet spot on the car- there's nothing like it.

Plus- not saying this should be a reason to get it- but from my experience- people are that much more impressed with the car once you open up the doors to this beauty- and they see the manual gearbox

Gears are too long, car is too heavy, it'll feel slow on the streets, i was disappointed, if you want manual, I would go for the m3, feels light and nimble.
