Spacers: is anyone using them?
I'm not planning on dropping the car as it has the CP already, but I think these big meats can come out a little bit.
Any advice or pictures to help out? Thanks! |

just make sure to get 10mm or bigger as only those are hubcentric

You don't want to do 5mm on the stock wheels. 5mm spacers are not hubcentric so they sometimes present wheel vibration issues. When I had my stocks I was running 10 fronts and 12 rears on an H&R Springs drop but if I was going back to stocks now I'd probably go 10 and 15. Maybe even 12 and 15.

These are hub-centric flat disc type spacers which require the factory hub to center the wheels. Please measure the vehicle hub to verify sufficient height will remain to center the wheel after spacer installation. http://www.trakplus.com/images/trakg.../hubheight.jpg It makes a lot of sense now – unfortunately way too much sense. No way would I use those if my hub isn’t tall enough. The sad part of this for me is with the slightly wider tires I want to run it may need less than 10 mm to fit. A 5 mm spacer was looking pretty good; until now that is. There also may be some bevel issues with some BMW models. Check the footnotes for you application or the last FAQ (#8) on the FAQ page. Of course, the option listing by BMW was a bit vague about what they are actually giving you with the CP – Experience pure high-performance and ultimate motorsport feel with the specially developed Competition Package. The enhanced dynamics come from increased HP output to 575HP, more direct steering ratio, black-chrome dual sport tail pipes, re-engineered suspension and the M Dynamic Mode modified. Does anyone know what BMW does to the steering ratio, the suspension and the M Dynamic Mode to make the Competition Package? Obviously for this the most critical change is in the suspension mods but I'm curious about the others ones too. I thought about getting the CP and brake packages when I got mine but picked the one the dealer had for the much better deal. At the time I had only seen the extra 15 HP and not paid much attention to the other mods. Kind of wondering if that was a smart move now. Quote:

I read another thread by Twitch Massacre concerning his experience with some 21" rims, tires and offset changes. He seemed very thorough and I'd take his notes as gospel on this. That said, I felt a bit slow too (not to mention this insatiable craving I have to know why) so I poked around the H&R site a bit more. There is a page on the H&R site on how to measure the clearance. It’s pretty well explained. Note that on step 3 you need to check on the tire where the fender and tire are the closest as camber might cant the front or back of the tire closer to the fender. http://www.trakplus.com/measure There is also a spacer selection tool on the TrakPlus site called ‘How to Buy’ -http://www.trakplus.com/buy You select your vehicle and plug in the measured clearance. When I tried plugging in the 5 mm into the measured clearance field their selector said they did not make one for that application. So I increased the measured value. At 6 and 7 mm measured clearance they recommended the 3 mm spacer. From 8 to 12 they went up to the 5mm spacer. For 13 and 14 mm measured clearance they recommend the 10 mm. For 15 mm measured they recommend the 12 mm and at 16 to 18 mm measured clearance their 13 mm spacer. From 19 to 21 mm it is the 15 mm spacer. That’s about as high as I have seen anyone post here so I stopped at the 15 mm spacer. Just to be certain I tried this for both the coupe and the GC – I did not check the convertible though (sorry people, but I figured it would probably be the same). The gist is they would like you to maintain about a 2-3 mm clearance over your measured clearance. I hope this was helpful and not redundant or too basic for you all. Just trying to reciprocate for all the help you all have given me. |
