Don't buy an M6 , they are absolutely awful handling cars and you could kill yourself with the RWD system they have on , this is what I told my daughter .. And to this day she hasn't bought one , as she trust her dads views !!
Instead she bought a tricycle, great advice for a 10 year old girl I think ... |

It's a rwd car so it will not perform like a fwd or an awd car in snow. Even if you put snow tires on it, which I have, it will be driveable in the snow but it won't have as good a traction as awd. Case in point, just a slight incline on my street and there was about 3-4 inches of unplowed snow on it caused my wheels to spin right as I was about to reach the top. Had to roll down backwards and go to the other entrance to my development so the car is going downhill instead of uphill on the way to my house. This was the snowstorm that hit NJ in early March.

The car had the DCT -which I liked a LOT better than I thought I would. I was however driving it in St. Louis where it was much warmer than here -felt nice, and at the same time, I didn't do anything remotely crazy. I am however a manual trans guy (Where possible) and I refuse to go drive the M3 with manual, because if I end up loving it, I'm screwed. PS - the M3 also did not have a sunroof -something I want in my cars (and something I miss in my 1M). I totally understand you guys not caring -cause on those hot sunny days here in Chicago, the first thing I do is close my shade. But the 350 other cloudy days here in Chicago, it is open

OP, you will some difficult days/weeks during those winter storms you guys experience in NY if this is a daily driver. However, rwd offers the most fun you can have. Also if you go with the M6 or any bimmer, you can pick up the car in NC at BMWs Performance center. The whole thing is free of charge and you will definitely improve as driver from the experience.

I understand the desire for a coupe over a four door when you're in the early 20's.
I did not care much for loading up passengers in my car when I was younger. Now that I'm 33 I tend to lean more towards a good balance. I was actually dead set on getting the M6 Coupe, but something changed my mind last minute and I chose the GC. I do not regret it at all. |

Get off your friggin' high horse! Anyone can drive an M6. Just don't drive like an idiot. Maybe the OP appreciates the car... Maybe the OP has the money to afford one... Who is ANYONE to tell him he's not up to driving the car? The PDC will put ANYONE in an M6 on the track for training... They don't have to have a resume of cars, or be a specific age, to earn this privilege. All they have to do is respect the vehicle and take the time to learn... Buy the car if you want it. Good for you. Just respect the car and don't drive like an idiot (like others on this forum) and you'll be fine! |
