640XD - Record in low fuel consumption?

Hello guys!

I went for a ride this Friday and decided to try how low I could get in consumption. My car is a 640D X-drive. Here are my numbers: After 220km I could fuel up with 9,90 Liters of fuel = 4.5l/100 km or 52,27 mpg!

Is this a record or can anybody challenge me

According to the bord computer consumption was 4.3l/100km which is less than 5% wrong so it should also be more than ok...

Amazing car!

That engine you have is fantastic, had the same in my 535 wagon. Best I got was 48mpg. I was debating to do a ecu flash to get 380hp/700nm. Never got to it before I switched to a 6’er

Cool! Do you like the 650 petrol better than the old diesel?

The 4.4liter petrol (n63tu) is nice, the torque delivery is actually very similar to the 3liter diesel at low rpm. Most of time I’m driving in comfort+, and at this setting the rpm stays low. For my average type of driving the diesel was at 32mpg while the petrol is 22mpg. Not bad for a 450hp v8, but obviously a bit behind the diesel. I don’t drive much so the gas budget doesn’t bother me, so yeah I take the petrol over the diesel, sorry. The 3liter diesel is a very good engine, so if the brand new diesel (they have released a new engine?) is better it must be absolutely superb.

Only wish the petrol had a bit more exhaust rumble Have investigated in replacing the mufflers, but think it’s a lot of money to spend on replace a perfectly good part.

I am, but can’t get them! My car is almost brand new (only got 2400 miles on it) and the best I’ve had is 43 mpg. Got a long drive tonight, so I’ll try and beat it!

I notice I get late 30s mpg around town, and I can get 44mpg on a long drive. Last time I saw 50mpg was my F30 330D!

Ok, 140 miles of mixed motorway and back roads. Computer says 47mpg and average of 56mph. So, that’s 225km, at an average of 90kph, using just over 5L/100km. Still, not bad for a big diesel, and I didn’t buy it to rival a Prius. Nice to know it can still do reasonable figures when needed. And I could have driven at 56mph, rather than 70mph. I reckon that would be the MPG sweet spot.

Great! And I agree, 640D is no Prius rival but it is still amazing how low fuel consumption that is possible with this car.

Best ever with my 650i cupe is 32mpg at steady 50mph over 93miles. My 535d wagon (313hp) did 48mpgduring the same trip.

my best in my 2015 640 is 47/48 MPG. I then got bored and decided to sit at 75 it only fell to 44 MPG.

My weekly average is between 34-36 mpg sitting depending on route between 30-50 mph, going the other way more like 75 mph all the way.
