no clue, but if that were my car, i'd be praying for it to be totaled. after that, you can never look at her the same way.

did your airbags not deploy? hope you're ok...my neck hurts just looking at it

Looking at the picture, it's all speculation. Best of luck.

Not sure where you are, but "total" via insurance companies is 75-80% of the value.

If the car is valued at $100, you need $75k in damage. Not even close. The rear pan is damaged, exhaust, outer panels, etc but takes a friggin hard hit to get it to that level.

Sorry my friend.
No this is neither total nor frame damage. It's 20-30k damage and will be fixed. Don't worry dude your car will be like new after repair...

I don't even think $15-20. That would be crazy, I know I can't see it all from these pics.

Diminished value claim is a formula. You would be lucky to see another $1,000 it's never gonna be a profit center for you for sure.

They will fix it, and will be good as new, just a line on a carfax report.

You'll be absolutely fine. I agree with those above who say it'll be put back as good as new and just a line on Carfax. Looks to be $10,000 to me. Can't say for sure, of course, but it also looks like no frame damage. You have zero chance of a total. I rear-ended a car, stupidly, and my M6 looked a heck of a lot worse than yours. Took 4 weeks to repair, $15,000, good as new. Yes, it will always be a black mark on Carfax -- and some prospective buyers won't touch it just because of that. It's just one of those things you'll have to deal with. The repair shop I selected used genuine BMW parts (insist on that) and really sweated the details. I can't say I'm "happy" -- I was an idiot -- but as things go in life, this is a small deal. I would also say you have no chance of a claim for diminished value. Good luck to you, and I wish you the best. You and your gorgeous car will be fine!

Dude!

So Sorry to see and read this post!

Main thing is you are ok ... the car can be replaced at a loss ... YOU CAN'T!!!

I hope you are not suffering any pain and are 110%!

As for the car, I am sure its Crumple Zones reduced your injuries!

So as annoying as it is (I've been there), the key to focus on is that YOU could have been hurt, and never the same!

ON A SIDE NOTE ... ALL THE MORE REASON TO LOOK AT THE NEXT GENERATION WHEN IT COMES OUT ...

Best wishes Brother!

Wow that sucks. Find a good shop that uses OEM parts, not used.

In a pure rear-end, the impact will push you against your seatback, which itself should have some "give" to absorb some of the energy of the impact. The airbag isn't necessary in that crash. The car's safety brain knows where the impact is coming from and only fires the proper bags.

I had a client with a very similar impact. Get it inspected to see if you have frame damage but by the pics looks like you don't.
No air bags deployed.
Need rear bumper/support, trunk, tail lights, etc..
Total cost ended up being around $20,000 range
Your M will NOT be totaled due to this accident.
Get it fixed and you'll be fine and back on the road.

Glad your safe tho..that's #1

Thanks for the comments and insights everyone. I believe M6-Coupe & Autohaus Frankfurt are correct in the 20-30k range. Since my insurance does cover genuine/factory BMW parts, then the cost of repairs will inflate beyond the mean. The aftermarket Meister Exhaust will be the bogey...

I'm guessing 23.5K. I will be pursuing diminished value, even if it is futile. A conversation with appraisers, and at worst a small claims court filing, won't commandeer a lot of time nor money. I'd agree that anything beyond those methods would probably provide negative returns.

Also, sadly, I will most likely sell the vehicle ASAP as that will increase my chances of retaining most of the vehicle's value. Even though many of you regard the Carfax ding as "just a line", the majority of dealers and buyers will look at the accident as an albatross.

This is the main reason I lease my cars instead of buying.

By the looks at where you stopped my guess is an idiot was texting and driving unless you did slam the breaks on the traffic light
regardless it is good to hear that your okay.
If it was really 40mph the m6 held up quite well, that is quality german engineering for you! way to go BMW.
And yea like what others said probably somewhere around 20k or so to fix, she will be good as new.
If you're trying to profit I would get a doctor examination from the impact and go from there.

Yeah but the point is that you don't need to keep the car for 3 years! You always can break the lease and trade your car with new one. I broke my lease on my first 650i after 19 months and the second 650i after 4 months

on a side note...my car has been sitting at Spectrum Collision in irvine, with their glorious BMW certification, for a 5 weeks now, to get a front passenger door and front fender fixed.

two week quote turned into three into four and now into five. one Friday morning, i was expecting the car to be done after following up closely for a week, and the guy said i can get it in the afternoon. i call that afternoon to confirm pickup time, and he concedes the replacement door hasn't even arrived yet.

Next friday, when i was told the car could be ready, i get a call from the manager saying that the aftermarket side skirts need more time for the adhesive or something, so i said that's perfectly fine and patiently waited...and now today, i'm told the skirt still needs to be worked on and adhesive to dry.

this follows up being overcharged and waiting 4 weeks to have four parts painted by European Auto Source and storming about and not letting them do the install, so the whole car industry can kiss my ass at this point

anyhoo...where you getting your car fixed?

If you are willing to transport it 60 miles, there is an A+ shop in Escondido.

Bravo, parts can take a while to come in. I was sideswiped by a bus in my E64 M6 several years ago.....$25k or so in damage.....and it took them a good 2-3 months to fix the car. They were waiting on these parts from Germany....
