Error Code 132408 VANOS Valve
So, I got a check engine light on. Code 132408
VANOS solenoid valve, exhaust: Intake camshaft not in locking position at start up. Mileage: 40,000 Car seems to run fine. Is this something I should be concerned about or can I just live with it? |

Car starts up fine, no rattles, holds constant rpm at idle & runs smooth. For the time being, as long as it doesn't throw more serious codes, I'm just going to just ignore it.

Why not try cleaning both of your VANOS solenoids with brake cleaner? I hear its relatively easy. Worst case i believe theyre around $75-$100. Normally if they're clogged up you will notice jerky acceleration or rough idling.

From what I've seen in youtube videos, they are a bitch getting to and removing them on the V8 engine. Considering that for a couple hundred dollars, I'll just replace the two of them on one side and have an independent garage do the work at some point.
The other code: 132608: VANOS solenoid valve exhaust 2: Intake cam not in locking position So far the car is just running normally. |

Ended up buying two standard equipment BMW parts for $450 two weeks ago and anticipated having a local independent BMW shop install them at some time in the near future. Today the check engine light came went out. Will be returning the parts.
