DSM Too Restricted?
I have generally driven with DSM on, so I can get some wheelspin without the car totally shutting down the power. I think plenty here do that.
But the problem is that on spirited acceleration, the car will start to fishtail (including in a manageable manner), but then the yaw nannies step in and shut down the power. It feels like the throttle choking off, but I assume the brakes are also being applied in a complicated way to stop the fishtailing. The only way to know what the engine can do is to turn it all off (pushing the traction control button for like 5 seconds). That means the likelihood of losing it all and doing a 720 into a tree is there. Does anybody else wish there were a setting that would allow acceleration-related fishtailing without the car getting all scared and shutting down the power? I don't drive like that much, but I like to every now and then, O.K. I know the solution is to drive like an expert and know what the car is capable of with the nannies off, and manage the loss of control when it comes; but I wouldn't mind the car being there to prevent true dangerous yaw, while still allowing some tail-wagging. I don't expect the car to know what my surroundings are, but just letting me go 45 degrees but not 70 might be O.K. I'm not a vehicle dynamics engineer, but I assume BMW could do whatever it likes on those yaw settings. I don't think I'm pressing any buttons wrong, or missing any settings, so please tell me if I am. I guess otherwise my question is how many of you drive with all the nannies off for this reason. |

Well with DSC ON as you mentioned the nannies are there to take the control (by cutting the throttle off and applying the brake)to make sure you are safe. DSC OFF is all about man and machine and you must be expert or have enough seat time to get used to the power and torque of this RWD monster...BUT if you are seeking some fun you can try MDM which is changing the threshold of DSC interference and let you go sideway even though the DSC is still there to interfere if you pass the that threshold...Just make sure to try it with S mode to have enough control on car and of course chose a big open area at first place...

And I'm saying MDM light is still too restrictive. I guess I should have used all the right initials. I guess the answer is I'll just learn to be careful when I turn everything off.

FWIW I agree. I wish there was a MDM+ mode or something that would increase the allowed yaw before the car jumps in to save me from myself

But I believe with MT , DSC OFF is manageable however I would not recommend it on public roads... the best place to try is either race track or private back yard track... where I usually have fun

The Krauts won't build it that way. I asked. A friend with a mole inside the M division reports the manual can't handle it. The bump in power isn't very large, but apparently it puts it over the edge.

The 2014/15 m6 manual was compatible with the Comp package- but when I ordered the 2016 m6 in a manual- the New comp package is strictly not available for a 6 speed MT.
