Do I really need the Comp Pack? Or...

So I test drove an M6GC with the Comp Pack a week or so ago, loved it. Steering feels amazing and the power is insane, almost scary lol.

I was thinking of getting an M6GC as the next car, but I had a question for you M6 experts. If I'm going to be replacing the exhaust, lowering the car on KW sleeve kit, putting new wheels on and a BMS tune, do I really need to get the Comp. Pack? Or will the mods take care and improve the feel either way?

Please let me know guys. Thanks.

I have non-CP M6, but as far as I know the Competition Package is not just about suspension and wheels and exhaust. here is the thread about all specs:

Your mods wouldn't be enough to address the differences in the Competition Package. Biggest difference you will find will be in steering feel. Without the Comp Pack every steering setting except for Comfort feel weighty, specially Sport Plus. With the Comp Pack steering is quicker on all modes.

Thanks for the help guys.

The reason I ask is, there is a beautiful 2014 M6GC with all the options i want besides the CP, and I can get it for $20K less than a new M6GC with the CP. So I was wondering if the $20K price gap is really worth it.

The CCBs aren't part of the Comp Pack though. They're a $8,700 option and IMO not worth it unless you track the car or if $8,700 won't make you blink.

Comp Pack is nice but for a non Comp Pack M6GC at a $20,000 discount I would have no problem skipping on it. I would have more trouble justifying the $7,500 option price on the Comp Pack than justifying not having bought the GC at a good price. Unless you can get a similar GC with Comp Pack and a $13k discount I would jump all over the one available now.

Plus the only other nice thing is the non-CP M6GC already has a Vorsteiner diffuser and spoiler, two things I was going to do to the car already.

So the discount is even more than $20,000 I would say as those Vorsteiner parts are not cheap.

Have you personally driven both non-CP and CP? Is the difference really all that much?

Yeah I have. There's a big difference in the steering feel that I could notice right away. The Non-CP with the steering in Sport Plus felt like a work out at times. Not a deal breaker though by any means, still an awesome car to drive. The steering in the CP is just less weighty, better tuned in, more direct.

Oooh I thought they were part of the comp pack. But I guess that is why you can upgrade them on the non-CP cars. I just really like the way they look -- massive and mean.

Also, on the topic of steering. I don't like driving the car in anything but comfort mode (I drive everything else on Sport Plus w/ Traction Control off). When you bump the steering to Sport or Sport Plus it just seems so damn tight -- I don't quite understand the concept of it.

That was one of the big gripes BMW addressed with the Comp Pack. Non-CP cars have steering that feels very weighty, or as you said "tight", on the Sports settings. I'm not quite sure why they set up the non-CP cars like this but the CP cars have this corrected.

I have an M6GC with comp package
I drove both and there is a big difference
It's an inch lower And makes it look slicker, specific 20" wheels, 20% stiffer suspension and handling is much tighter
Almost like go kart
It really just looks and feels different
Not to mention black exhaust tips
And Exhaust note is different and more explosive

I think the handling and steering upgrades alone are worth it. The car is 10x more responsive and sharp this way. Without it putting steering on Sports Plus is like wrestling a bear.

Yeah, that's what seems to be most usable on Non-CP M6s but the steering ratio isn't quite as quick that way. Still I would say it isn't a deal breaker not to have it.

damn, what's with the comp pack steering? Is it lighter like in AMG or something?

It's a 20% more direct steering ratio no matter what mode it is in . Also different bushings in the steering system and upgraded front swaybars . All of these changes result in a more direct steering with much better feel on center and initial turn in . Night and day difference between the two .

I wasn't under the impression the steering ratio changed on Comfort vs. Sport or Sport Plus. I have not checked documentation but between switching through the various modes the ratio didn't change from me turning the wheel on a 45 degree turn.

I would personally love to have the CP package but I bought my car for a pretty damn good price (it had 4,000 miles on it when purchased). I mean shit let's face it who WOULDN'T want the CP package??
