Lop-sided

I've been slightly unhappy with the smoothness of the ride, even in comfort+ and recently noticed it looked like the car was lower on the drivers side. Having done the 'finger test' I can get 4 fingers between the tyre and arch on the passenger side but it's 3 fingers on the drivers side.

Car is booked in Thurs for a full service and to explore the suspension. I'm hoping for something cheap like top mount failure.

Car is a little shy of 60k miles.

I hope to god it is not the damper otherwise you will be getting an unwelcome early Xmas pressie from your car! (no warranty I presume?)

I have a non-BMW warranty, but I'd guess it would be spring or mount related, I can't imagine why the damper would make it sit lower as the spring and mounting points should determine ride height. Will find out tomorrow.

So the verdict is in. The garage have confirmed the drivers side rear is 10mm lower than the passenger side, but this is within BMW spec and nothing appears wrong with any of the parts, so they have advised it's fine.

Not sure I'm happy with the 10mm difference, but the fact all parts are fine and within spec is good to know.

Having done some quick googling this seems quite common and could be down to allowances for full fuel tank, different sized spring pads for diver side etc.

I had read (somewhere) that BMW adjusts the settings assuming that "normally" there is only one person in the car.

Now, that said, I would expect to see the driver's side "higher" than the passenger side.
