Nice! Crazy good discount. I want to see what changes they make to 2016 tho, and it is only 5 - 6 months away. I hope LCI has soft close trunk. If the changes are minor and no soft close trunk, then I might lease a 15 model.

I am a major complainer of the lack of the soft close trunk. I have a '14 650 coupe Sport Edition. Don't count on it showing up on the '16 unless they redesign the over-engineered rear camera, which I seriously doubt.

Drivetrain Malfunction, cylinder #6 misfire

Hi everyone, hoping to get some advice and insight on the infamous drivetrain malfunction on the 2013 Gran Coupe, 650. I experience it only on longer trips and so far it has always been on cylinder #6. The company has replaced the gas pedal, spark plugs, reprogrammed the ECU, the ACC module and they seem to have no idea what is causing the issue. Has anyone successfully fixed their malfunction? Are your issues cylinder misfires too? Love to hear from you. I am in the process if seeing if BMW will repurchase the vehicle because they seem to have no idea what is wrong. Help please...

Never saw it occur with my car but then gave it up for an M car in 6 mos of ownership so don't know. Good luck with repair/dealership repurchase..that one may be a hard sell.

I got a ding, an engine light, a "drivetrain malfunction" iDrive message, the car switched to neutral, and started vibrating and making a shaky noise. I couldn't change to drive or reverse, so I finally got it in park and killed the engine. I waited a few seconds, restarted it, and it started normally and did fine. I was going to go straight to the dealer, but I called and couldn't get a loaner right away. I had to be back at work in 30 minutes, so I decided to hold off. I'm planning on taking it in tomorrow to see what they say.

The same exact thing happened on January 16th. They attributed it to low power steering fluid, reset the system, and topped it off. No idea if that's what's going on here or if that was a coincidental finding.

This is really getting frustrating. In the last month I've had to bring my car in 3 times with problems! I haven't gotten stranded or anything horrible, so I'm not too irate, but this is getting ridiculous...
I had the same thing happen when starting my 650. Only 3000 miles and it was a bad exhaust solenoid. Seemed to fix my issue. But that should happen to a brand new car. Got it with 8 miles on the OD.

Drivetrain Malfunction

Thank-you both for writing, I appreciate it. I am surprised that BMW doesn't have a fix for this yet. I have noticed owners of the 550 and the x50 also complain about a similar issue. For me I worry that the malfunction will occur right when I need the power (passing one a 2 lane road or while in heavy traffic).

An article by RT on N63 engine.

http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cult...ns-bmw-n63-v8/

I did a lot of readings about the car, and one article mentioned that BMW admitted to the flaw in N63 design which is why they came up with customer care package program. I love F06 GC and was hoping to get another. But, it was a pain while owning it, and BMW doesn't seem to have a good solution beside this CCP. Also, dealers weren't that helpful and was giving me bs instead of fixing the problem.

Good luck!

Another Drivetrain Malfunction

Thanks for writing in - just bought a new battery - now I know why! The car is back at the dealership with another Drivetrain Malfunction. Same symptoms...rough running engine - check engine light. Last time the spark plugs were replaced - clearly not the issue. I don't think BMW has a clue what is wrong....

I was considering a 650i, but this has now put me off.

I'm now going to go for the 640d M-Sport RWD, which is available in Europe (I'm not sure if you guys have it in the USA?)

I have a 2014 650i coupe N63TU, has not had one issue in 13 months now, and has not even need to be topped off with oil between changes.. All MFG's have some bad eggs, it's really just about statistics in the end. Thank goodness for lemon laws!

Drivetrain Malfunction is a known issue, not fixable

Thank-you again for all writing in. My 650i GC has now been in 3 times for repair since I purchased it on April 22nd. A special centralized engineering team for BMW is involved since the dealer cannot identify what is causing cylinder 6 and cylinder 3 to misfire. The engineering team in charge of technical repair in the US issued this statement: BMW is aware of a known issue with the 650i where cylinders 6 and 3 will fail under certain circumstances, there is no known repair at this time and replacing parts will not impact the issue. For me, this issue only surfaces after long drives over 70mph. Has anyone else experienced this? From my understanding, nearly every 650 will have these two cylinders shut down during a long trip.

N63tu has known cylinder issues, unable to be repaired

The 2012 4.4 liter v8 is called the N63 engine. That engine has an available CCP (customer care package) available if you take it in to BMW. It has some known problems with longevity, this the care package. In 2013 they updated the engine to be called the N63TU, the TU stands for technical update. This engine has the known issue where cylinder 6 and 3 fail on long drives. According to BMW engineers, there is no known fix. This engine will experience this failure in all models, the 6 series, 5 series, 7 series X5 and X6. In 2013 BMW became aware of the issue, it could happen just a few minutes after startup. Instead of placing a recall, they came up with a computer update and flashed the ECU. Instead of it happening in short distances, it now only happens after or during long drives. Since most owners don't drive in excess of a few hundred miles a day, they will not experience it. However, take a drive across the country and you will likely have both cylinders fail. I wish more people would bring this to BMW's attention, along with the NHTSA - so an appropriate recall can be done. BMW knowingly sells this motor and is fully aware of this defect. I am not sure if the N63 also has it...it doesn't matter if it has AWD or just rear wheel drive. My car is Xdrive.....

Not that this is statistically significant, but my 2012 (N63) 650i never had this issue and I took it on many long trips (~250 miles).

Same here. My 2014 Gc has had several long trips at high speed (right across SD at 85+mph without stopping) with no problems at all.

Likewise I have never needed to add oil between changes. Car now has 45,000 kms (nearly 30,000 miles) and runs perfectly. My only complaint was the RF tires which have been replaced with Michelin PSS.

Do you know by chance if S63tu is suffering from the same issue?

Happened to me in two separate trips from az to cali, drivetrain malfunction came on display the power to the engine got limited. had to pull over, turn the engine off for about 10 mins. restart and everything would work as normal.
Got it to the dealer, first time they could not find anything, the second time in they found misfire faults for cylinder 3 and 6, they said they installed a cable tie to secure the fuel rail pressure sensor harness.
Did not take a long trip since, so i am very curious what the hell is going on with it. I have the 14 650i with the "updated" engine
