Brake Dust

The one interesting thing about my 2014 GC is that it has almost zero brake dust. Did BMW do something with the brake pad composition?

It isn't as bad as most German brake pads, but it is still pretty bad. I have two coats of wax, and a semi sealant on the wheels, so it doesn't get that bad.

If you are having minimal brake dust, then BMW has changed the composition of their pads.

This is a great change! Brake dust has been a major PITA for decades, on BMWs and German cars in general. From VW to MBZ, they've used pads that made what looked like coal dust for a long time.

Haven't put enough miles on mine to notice, just started my second tank of gas.

Garage List
Not an issue on my 2014. No dust at all though I don't brake much with mostly highway driving.

Brake dust was still bad on my 2008 550i msport, I noticed a great improvement on a 2010 335is, and even better on my 2011 550i msport.

On my 2014 640i is even better, maybe because of the 20" wheels, but now I wash the car every two weeks, but the wheels only once a month or even less, is great.

so whatever the improvement it has been gradual but very noticeable since 2010.

It is great now that I can wash the car only and not worry about the wheels, it reduces the time spent in washing by about 20 to 30 minutes.
