Engine washing procedure and tips. Is there a proper way?

Engine bay getting dirty. Engine washing procedure and tips. Is there a proper way? As not to damage anything. How do you guys do it?

I wipe down the engine area and covers, under bonnet etc every wash, then it never gets grubby...

But if it needs cleaning I wet it first with a gentle very fine mist spray from your water hose gun, not a "jet" just a mist. Then spray on gunk or some other degreaser then work it in all over with a soft bristle brush before using the fog spray again to gently rinse it all off.

All the electrical connectors are water proof as long as you don't use a high pressure.

Dry it all off with towels and use absorbent paper towels to get water out of indents etc. Use can use something like THIS to put a matt shine back on the plastic bits.

Then take it for a good drive to shake off / dry off any water.

Good as new!
