Hi,
I had HK on my 435d GC and just moved to an older 640d GC which has B&O....I have found a really big difference throughout the range in the B&O and to my ear it comes much better with varied music than the HK did |

I have two 650's a coupe with B&O and convertible without. The convertible is my girlfriends and she tells me the stereo is the only thing she wishes was better. The B&O sounds a lot better to her (my hearing is gone).

They take a page out of a live sound rigging by ensuring that no channel, no matter how hard you push it, won't overdrive the first stage through the final stage. This means you can crank it up and your ears will bleed before the more than 20% distortion sets in. But, the best part of B&O is that they don't over compress the signal or otherwise limit the signal too much. Yet, somehow, all of the drivers miraculously stay fully functional. This means you can hammer a B&O system and it's totally forgiving. I have had B&O for 6 years in three binmers and I have yet to blow a driver. My only complaint is the DSP can alter the original by introducing a synthesized reproduction---this could be their way to implement compressing/limiting. So, if your average Joe like me, you'll love B&O. If you're an audiophile or you have a golden ear, your likely to be disappointed because it's definitely notched to ensure you can hear your motor and the DSP can be a little overbearing. |

^ agreed.
As a musician and audiophile for a living, neither are necessarily stellar considering the cost. There are MUCH better options if you want to go aftermarket for the same cost- so I'd save the money and get the HK. It's really more a "shows men option" than anything. I've done side by side comparison with my old 2014m6 that had the BO, and a friends m6 who had HK- and there wasn't enough a difference justifying the cost.

Hmmm not sure on 2012s. In my 2016 ordering guide since I didn't opt for the B&O system, the standard came with detailed harman/Kardon 16 speaker sound system in the description
It is an m6 however, so not sure if that changes anything. : Edit- just found out HK comes on the later models as standard, hi fi- was another model not made by HK. Hi fi with the first few years for the 6 series.

OP- honestly, B&O is all for show. Don't sweat that money and use it towards something else. HK is PLENTY good.

I have had two F13 coupes, one B&O, the other, HK. Both new. Both sound good. The B&O sounds better, very good, but not worth the difference in cost, IMO. Wow factor of rising tweeter notwithstanding.

I've got the B & O - love it. Sounds fantastic, looks fabulous. Can't go wrong with it. The rising center speaker, the LED accent lighting, the aircraft grade aluminum grills.Worth the money. Can you do better? Sure, go have your new $90K car gutted to install a aftermarket system and hope it does not get screwed up.

I have to say I had never really listened to my girlfriends stereo in her convertible, but she is having fun with her daughter at a dude ranch in Wyoming and I decided to install her exhaust controller while she was gone. Now I realize her car is a convertible, but the HK sounds terrible compared to the B&0 and since my hearing is gone from 4 years traveling with the dead 42 years ago it must be bad.
