Planning to get a M6, 5 Series Driver here

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I currently drive an 535i M Sport and I been recently bored of the 300hp power so I was either thinking of upgrading to an M4 2018 or 2015-16 M6.

How are the M6's? Are they good Daily drivers?
Are they comfortable cruisers?

Also coming from a 5 series driver what do u guys think I should upgrade rather to
An M4 or M6?

I love cars that are normal and comfortable but than when I press the sport button, it goes into like a "beast" mode.

Well, I'm new to bimmerpost, but considering the M6 is my dream car, I'll be posting in this section very often
Funny enough, I've never been behind the wheel of an M6 or an M4, but I've driven multiple 6-series, regular 4's, and f-80 M3's.

In terms of a comfortable cruiser, the M6 may be the one of the greatest card ever created for that purpose. I prefer the M6 simply because it has performance, styling, & price prestige over an M4. It's simply better in every way, except for not having a physical parking brake
*m4 is for kids, M6 is for grown men

I have driven both and it depends if you want a sports car or a gt cruiser. The M4 is is faster (except at top end), handles better, is more nimble, gets better mpg, and more fun to drive. The M6 is better looking inside and out, more tech, more luxurious, bigger trunk, bigger screen, but no bigger back seat (coupe/vert). It depends on what you want in a car and your $$.

2014 BMW M6 GC  [10.00]
The M6 is the better "cruiser" by far. Great on the highway. It does feel a bit "big" around town. I tend to drive my 5 around town and do the long distance drives in the M6GC-CP. The Competition package make the ride more "sporty" / stiff.
The M4/3 are more dynamic and nimble but the six is no slouch. The Gran Coupe has ample room for 4. Forget the 5 passenger idea.
Two completely different experiences as highlighted by MJPOSNER

If you’re getting the M6 make sure you get the 4 door Gran Coupe or maybe the convertible,
. there is no point in getting the regular 2 door, might as well get the M4 since it is a much better performance coupe. I personally think the M6 isn’t that great of a ride in terms of comfort while driving. It’s a sports car so you feel every bump, I have the comp package so it’s even worse. I test drove the M4 and couldn’t really tell which one was faster under 10mph. M4 was a blast in turns. The M6 4door is a sleek missle you wouldn’t expect. You can literally cruise at 120+ and feel comfortable with cruise control on.

Coming from a 5 series (a bigger car) already I would go the m4 Route. It’s something different, WAYYY more nimble and agile. Plus cheaper.

M6 Gran Coupe all day. Great daily driver, feels a bit big at first but you get used to it. There is not a better straight line highway cruiser.

If you want a comfortable cruiser with a lot more punch than a 535, you could get there with a 650i. There is a huge difference in the ride quality and comfort between a 650 and an M6 Comp. The 650 will ride about like your 535 but look better and give you an extra 140 hp or so before you tune it.

The M6 with the Comp package is a much more sporty, harsher ride and that fantastic DCT is still not as smooth around town as the regular auto. The only company who seems to be able to pull that off is Porsche. Their PDK is as smooth as a normal auto in normal mode and shifts as fast as the BMW in Sport + mode.

Anyway, I love the M6 but it is not a daily driver. That task falls to the Panamera. I would take either on a 500 mile trip, but the Porsche would be more comfortable and the M6 would be more fun.

Why are you not considering an M5 if you like the 535 but want more punch?

The new m5 is kind of expensive. $115k base.

My range is around 90-100k

I came from a E90 M3 and now drive a M6 GC. I drove the M3 for 7 years prior to switching.

While I've never driven the F8x M3/4, I'm confident the driving experience is similar to the E9X M3.

So here's my perspective:

The M3 will feel like a sharper and lighter car. If you value those characteristics, the M6 won't give you that same driving feel. If you will track the car or do a lot of canyon carving type driving, the M3 will be the better car. That's not to say the M6 is not capable of doing any of this, you just feel the extra 1000 lbs of weight and the longer wheelbase when you turn.

I wouldn't say the M3 is much less of a comfortable daily cruiser. It really comes down to the tires you use and the wheel size more than the suspension setup of the cars. My M6 is more comfortable than my M3, but these cars have EDC whereby you can set the dampening feel of the car. Soft on the M6 feels the same as soft on the M3, but my M3 was on 19s and the M6 is on 20s (same MPSS tires). I drive on the middle setting btw, bc I like the firmer sporty feeling.

Now the M5/6. This car is a completely different animal than the M3-type cars. It is hands down faster than pretty much any car out there outside of the supercar territory. (straightline speed).

The driving experience is ALSO better than the M3 of E9x or F8x generations. The V8 turbo snaps, crackle, burbles and pops. If you get ZCP or put an aftermarket exhaust on it, it's got the supercar sounds. Ultimately, if you don't track your car, these characteristics is what driving a sports car is all about. The best driving experience I've ever had is the 991.1 Turbo S, and the M6 is very close to that experience in the straight line. (I've never driven a Z06, Lambo, Ferrari or GT3)

Final thing to consider. I think the E9X M3 is a better driving experience than the F8x M3/4.

When I made my decision to sell the M3, I made sure that the replacement was going to be a better car. There's a reason why I didn't simply just go to the F8x. It's not materially a better car than the E9x M3. Sure it has updated tech and styling, and is marginally faster than E9x car, but it is not a better car with all things considered and paying $50k or so for it.

Also, from what I heard, the car you're driving the F10 5-series is one of the most dull cars ever made by BMW. So a switch to pretty much any other model (other than a X car or a 7 series) will improve your driving experience.

So firstly, decide if you want the M5 or M6 or M6 GC. Do you want a coupe or not? If you want a sedan, the M5 will be about $10k cheaper for the same model year, equipment, mileage than the M6 GC. So why is the M6 GC so expensive or highly sought? Just look at the car...every angle just shouts "wow". That's the reason I bought the M6 GC over the M5.

M6 GC is hands down the king of the highway. A 4 door car that looks like a sleek coupe and is extremely powerful, if you decide to tune the car it changes it to supercar performance levels from a sedan and it's nothing short of amazing to drive on a daily basis.

How about.. how about you wait a year, and buy a virtually new M5 for several tens of thousands less.
