Snow tires for 2018 BMW 640 xi Gran Coupe M package

Bimmer fans, need your expertise on tires.

I live in Toronto - subzero weather with snow and ice filled roads.

I took delivery of my vehicle today with summar performance tires (staggered 20 inches wheels).

Needless to say, I must replace my snow tires ASAP.

My previous vehicle is a 2016 535d with 245 45 R18 tires.

Does anyone know if I can reuse these tires in the meantime before shopping for proper ones?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Look at the tire pressure sticker on your driver's door/door jamb...or the owners manual. There should be mutiple recommended tire sizes...including tire sizes for snow/winter tires.

If the 18" recommendation is the same size as your 5 series tires...then more than likely yes...because you also need to check the wheel specs to see if they are also compatible with your 6 series.

Edit: found this in the owners manual:

If the wheels fit...but the tires are not the correct size...you will need to mount the wheels with the correct 18" tire size. The overall rolling diameter/circumference needs to be the same (regardless if you have 18"/19"/20"/etc wheels). You can also google "tire size calculator" to input various tire sizes and compare them to the BMW recommended tire sizes...or check a site like www.tirerack.com to find the correct size tires for your 6 series.

EDIT: since you didn't give a BMW wheel style...I went to one of the BMW wheel style websites...and it appears the F10 5 series and F12/F06 series use the same size wheels...but do double check to verify. You can look up the wheels you have on the link below or go to one of the online part databases and input your BMW info and pull up th wheel diagrams. Look up the BMW wheel style you have and then check if the F06/F12 uses the same BMW part number: http://www.bmwstylewheels.com/bmw/367

Thanks and much appreciated for the detail response. I actually went to my friend’s body shop and they spent 30 minutes to conclude that they do fit...both the rims and tires. I am one happy camper now since ordering the staggered 20 inches snow tires and rims will take a few days. Not only am I able to drive around I can also take my time to shop for tires, and save a bit of money (option to choose 18 inches Vs staggered 20). Once again, very much appreciated!

For others who run into same situation as I did, the 18 inches 245/45/R18 snow tires do fit onto a 640 xi Gran Coupe w/ M package

Hey there, don't mean to bump an old thread but could you confirm the wheel size for all 4's were 8x18? I'm looking into an 18" set for my 650GC as well, i'm getting some conflicting info from sites that the rear wheels require 8x19 and a different offset? If you could confirm i would really appreciate that. Thanks!

Those 'new' F 1X series (also F06) are having 'same' wheel fitting so no problem. I did start my living with my F13 with 245/45/18 winter tires and noticed that those are too wide for real winter so I went to 225/50/18 which plays very well. And for your sake choose NON RF tires

My 640 DA X-Drive did have and has still 8 x 18" round with winter tires.

Don't confuse the BMW staggered wheel offering as being a "requirement". That is not what you're seeing.

BMW offered multiple wheel sizes...and in those offerings were staggered wheel sizes (rear wheel is wider and may have a slightly different wheel offset). But that is NOT a requirment. You can still mount a "square" set of wheels (where all the wheels are the same size and have the same wheel offset). In this scenario...the front wheel is usually the wheel size used...thus the tire size for front & rear would be the same.

Again, don't confuse/conflate the staggered wheel/tire set-ups as a REQUIREMENT...they are just an option. Take note of the chart (in the 2nd post above) from the BMW owners manual. The tire sizes listed for the winter tires (indicated by the M&S...aka mud & snow) are not listed with a larger rear tire size...that's because in most cases people run a "square" winter set-up.

Exactly.
On my Daughter’s X5 Sport Package there are 315’s and 285’s. Even if I could get snow tires in this size, I would not. Way to wide for Northern winters snows. I just got quality 255 Blizzaks on wheels for the season.

Thanks all, i've spent a few hours researching this as i'm planning to buy a used BMW factory wheel set so i just wanted to make sure they'd fit. Will likely be going with the 245/45/18 and the Style 281 wheels. Thanks again all!
