Squeaky Driver's Seat...

Does anybody have a squeaky seat? I'm one of those people that is driven nuts by noises in my car. It sounds like it is coming from the left side of the back portion of the seat.

Maybe I'm a bit too OCD...

When my passenger seat is empty, it does squeak when the car is in motion. The weight of a passenger stops the squeak though.

My driver's seat doesn't squeak, but it's probably my weight that helps with that as well.

I agree with you, such an expensive car should not have squeaky seats.

My passenger seat recently squeaked with someone in it.

Try adjusting your seat into differing position(s) to see what angle or leverage causes it to squeak.

If it is truly obnoxious it may be a loose support/bolt etc which should be fixable.

I had the same problem, it was because the seat back was rubbing against something I'd placed behind it. Sounds obvious, I know, and you've probably already checked that, but worth a quick look if you haven't.

That's funny. I'm so anal, that I don't even keep stuff in my car. I think I may have found a seat position that reduces the squeak greatly, which is good. However, I may try to see if I can pull the seat apart. That's a bit risky, but I also prefer to take the DIY approach, especially with something a BMW SA would consider minor. Certainly, if I can't get rid of the noise over time, then I'd go in and have them take a look at it.

As an aside, I had a Toyota Tundra a while back. Obviously, there were a number of squeaks in it, since it's a truck. Well, it still wasn't acceptable to me, so I took various felt pads and placed them throughout the truck, which included pulling door panels off to get rid of squeaks! Anyway, I was able to get rid of damn near every noise in the cabin, which was awesome. Well, whenever my wife and I got in an argument, she would threaten to pull them all out while I was sleeping!! Needless to say, she won a lot of arguments.

I had the same exact issue on mine and it drove me INSANE! I tried changing my seating position and nothing helped. I noticed it mostly on turns...right hand turns mostly and at lower speeds. I was finally fed up and took it into the dealer and they fixed it. I took my SA for a test drive so he can hear what I was putting up with and he had it fixed the same day. Seems like some bolts were loose down there but they took care of it and that squeak hasn't come back since (knock on wood).

I'd suggest you take it in and let them fix it. It drove me crazy that a 100k car had squeaks.

Funny I think it's a BMW driver thing, I keep nothing that can rattle inside my car, even my rear seat belts are buckled at all times!! If anything rattles I fix it immediately, I mean as soon as I'm not moving.. If it persists, take it in to the dealer and make them fix it, some guy once lemoned a Murcielago because of interior rattling and squeaks, it made headlines! For what we pay for these cars they should not annoy us in the slightest, you're supposed to enjoy life at all times in a BMW!

Isn't it insane that we have have to find a seat position in order to keep it from squeaking in a $100k vehicle?

I have the squeaky drivers seat too, but it only happens when I am getting in or out of the car. I have this weird annoying rattle from the passenger seat area though.

Is the rattle the seatbelt hitting the plastic on the side of the seat? If so, you can slide the belt clip up or down to minimize the rattle.

I'll do a little looking around to see if I can easily pull the seat apart, or enough to check for any loose bolts, etc. If it doesn't look like an easy DIY, then I'll definitely take it to the dealer.

It was a common problem for the 2012s and they rolled out a fix to the service centers for repairs. I had it done about 2 years ago on mine. Just a warning though - they totally F'd up my seat (ripped the seat leather and left trim off) and scratched up the door sill in the process of fixing it. Took me about 5 trips before they finally got it all fixed. Pretty much a nightmare from what started as a minor squeak.

I fix all that stuff myself for that reason.. I am handy though and know how to locate and fix those things from many years of experience. We still shouldn't have to, I just avoid the dealer any time I can.

I did, it helps a little, but I guess the bass when I am playing music still causes it to rattle.

My passenger seat makes noise too when empty-until I moved the seat back to a more upright position. Problem solved but still, a $100K vehicle has these problems???

A $400k Murcielago was lemoned by its' owner for rattles on the inside.. There's nothing anyone can do when there are that many moving parts in one place. Best thing is to identify them and fix them or have them fixed, the whole pride thing about a $100k car shouldn't have those problems is just an unrealistic point of view IMO.

Found the squeak!! It turned out to be easier than I thought. The little plastic cover on the back of the seat rail was slightly amiss. I snapped it back into place, and the squeak is gone...I am a happy man.

Ahhhhh!
It's the little things in life that make $ 100K problems seem huge. And so glad with simple resolution.

Here and there you get a loose part that vibrates, you find it and fix it, not really that big a deal in any car.

Yeah, it's bound to happen. I had a Tundra a while back, which is bound to be noisy, and I was on a mission to make the cabin silent. I went so far as pulling off door panels to put little pieces of foam in there to keep the squeaks to a minimum. Well, that's all fine and good, until my wife realizes how much effort I put into keeping squeaks away. Anytime we got in an argument, she would threaten to pull out all of my "noise dampeners" while sleeping.

Yep......she's won a lot of arguments over the years, now that she knows my kryptonite. :/
