Newbie Arrives to say Hi

So after months of patient waiting, the new M6 comp coupe is finally ready for collection this weekend.

I ordered it back in October and it comes on the back of a fairly long and enjoyable history of BMW's...I dont regret most of the purchases....except the foray into a Mercedes diesel some years ago....OMG, never again

Anyway, wanted to formally say hi and thanks to many but specifically RichardP and Parm for their reviews and views on the M6. I read their views on the pro's and con's and it was their insight that pushed me toward the comp pack....although I couldn't justify the ceramic brakes I'm afraid.

I was tempted to order a new M4 but felt I was not going to get anything like a decent deal and the M6 is a fabulous place to be so with BMW 'almost' giving the things away (man maths calculator suggested this), it had to be done.

Roll on Saturday and apologies in advance for the numerous pictures I will post

Steve

Congratulations, welcome to the relatively select club of the few M6 owners in the UK!

I think you made a good choice, the CP is almost impossible to retrofit, the Carbon Ceramic brakes can be (at a cost!) if you want to add them later, maybe after your first set of disks and pads wear out for example.

Get those pictures up ASAP! The more the better.

Oh and an equally warm thankyou to Palmnuts for his outstanding review of the new M6 and confirming that San Marino was the colour for me.

Steve
No problem and welcome to the club

It seems a long time ago when I wrote that but the car still seems as impressive today as it was then, which is saying something for me as I'm normally looking for something new after 6 months.

Not so with my M6, which (given what I look for in a car) I can't think of any other car on the market I'd want to replace it for. Only when, possibly, one of Mercs new offerings are available (new S-Class Coupe AMG / still-secret AMG GT) or after the new 911 Turbo has done it's initial bout of depreciation will there be something else to tempt me. Outside of outrageous and unobtainable (for me) hypercars, the M6 is one of the most impressive yet amazingly underrated cars out there. Everyone comments how nice it is and it does get a lot of attention (almost without exception, people prefer it to my previous SLS ), yet it's not a car many people in the market actually want to buy. Saying this, one of my colleagues has just ordered one so, despite it's rarity, there will be two in our office car park!

San Marino is a fantastic colour - when clean and in the sun it is unbelievable - I've added a few gratuitous pictures below taken in brighter weather than my first lot of pictures. I'm traditionally a red man so it was a tough choice between this and the Sakhir but the fact San Marino is exclusive to the M6 made the choice. Order will be restored soon as I've ordered a new M3 to replace the missus' M135i and have gone for Sakhir on that.

Thanks....it's hard to find such a sunny day in the UK to get shots like this!

Quick question though - no matter what format or how I upload the pictures, I lose quality. If I upload to Photobucket, and link to them, that seems to automatically lower the quality and if I upload directly the the forum, I'm restricted on how many pixels. Both make the pictures considerably less defined.

In contrast, your photos on the forum look pin sharp - is there a trick I'm missing here?

Thanks for the pictures; it was these pictures, originally published on this site that drew me to the San Marino Blue. I had thought I was sold on the idea of Moonstone which was on a demonstration M6 GC and looked really interesting in different lights but I was swayed by your car and very glad of that.

I picked up the M6 CP on Saturday and incredibly it was a sunny and bright day, not warm but two out of three isnt bad.
It created quite a stir in the dealer when I picked it up....reception staff seemed to be buzzing around waiting for it to be moved from service area to handover area and when I did finally get to see it, I could understand why.

My girlfriend took the picture below and I really love the depth of colour it shows.
Unfortunately, Sunday's weather returned to the wet and wild weather so could not take any more photo's but will try to take a few more this weekend...weather permitting

Congratulations Steve, I'm very envious. Saturday was a great day to pick up a new car, more photos and details of additional spec would be appreciated.
After many weeks of driving up and down the country Looking at different colours I finally placed my order on Saturday.....I have also opted for San Marino blue. It looks absolutely stunning.

Thanks....and yes it is. Well spotted.

I bought it as a temporary smoker between M6's and by the time I finished with it, it was a good example. Those E39 M5's drive really nice - kind of makes the M6 feel a bit wooden actually.

I have a friend with a Moonstone 3 series and it's certainly an interesting colour. San Marino is much sharper though.

Did your girlfriend get you to do that specific pose for the photo

No probs, although this is all getting a bit common now.....blue M6's now appear to be flying out of the showrooms

Those 8 weeks will fly by - it's only just beyond Easter.

It does look like a bit of a setup photo, but in my defense I was talking to the salesman who was stood to my right about tyre insurance of all things.

She always seems to take good pictures and that was with her camera phone....although on this occasion, I think it would have been a much better overall shot with me stood out of shot

As for specification, here are the options above standard spec:

F13 M6 Coupe
San Marino Blue
Competition Pack
343M Alloy Wheels
Silverstone Extended Merino Leather
Soft Close Doors
Comfort Access
Reversing Assist Camera
Surround-View
Speed Limit Display
Internet
Sun protection glass
Online Entertainment

I will get some more pictures when time, location and weather permits
