M6 competition package

I have a burning question that I can't seem to get anyone to answer at my BMW dealership.

The m6 competition coils, do they really set the car lower than the base m6 coils???

If so, how much front and back?

Can they be installed on the base m6?

The GC is 10mm lower, not sure about the Coupe, I'd guess it's the same.

Euro Coupe is also 10mm lower. Don't see why they cannot be retro fitted.

As stated before it's 10mm lower for the CP. You can find the part #s at RealOEM.com for the retrofit.

If you are referring to springs as coils, then the answer is "yes".

10mm lower on the "Competition Package" for all M Cars

I don't believe it, had a CP car next to mine at the dealer, looked the same.

You are probably right, but data from BMW are confusing. In the original press release the 10 mm lowering was announced for the M5 only:" For the BMW M5, these adjustments have resulted in a lowering of the car by around 10 millimeters, which lowers the center of gravity (CG) and roll Center". . However, in the current german price list for the M6 GC the 10 mm lowering are also mentioned (perhaps the description was copy/pasted from the M5 price list?). The brochure however does not list the 10 mm lowering.

Both the springs and dampers for the Competition Pack are different to standard, this could just be for different spring and damper rates but I think the M6 is supposed t be 10mm lower.

As it happens, I have two almost identical pictures showing the front ride height of both F13 M6's that I've owned.

The first one was my 2013, non-Comp Pack M6, the second on is my current 2014-MY Comp Pack M6.

So, what do you reckon....is the Competition Pack any lower?

I think I remember reading somewhere the competiton package only lowers the M5 10mm, not the M6.

Looks lower by about 10mm to me too! M6 definitely lowered by 10mm as I have stated before it says so in the (German) price list, 7MA Competition Paket - "sportlichere Fahrworksabstimmung mit 10mm Tieferlegung"
Actually another interesting point, why in Germany do you have to have the Harmon Cardon Surround System or the Bang&Olufsen High End system to be able to order the Competition Paket?

Well, I would have initially said it looks slightly lower...just not sure it was 10mm? It could just be a small difference in tyre wear.

Anyway, since lfc has quoted the claimed drop from the German price list, I'm sure I can see a bigger difference now

I couldn't seem to spot a difference between my car (with CP) and other cars without it (before I lowered mine even further) despite the advertised height difference. The thing about 10mm is that it's only a fraction of an inch, 0.39 to be exact. So I'd assume it's pretty hard to spot a noticeable difference without having both cars about a foot apart from each other to compare.

Agreed, the drop is so slight that you could get nearly 40% of that from the difference between a new and totally worn out tyre!

The angle is different in both pics. That's why it seems lower but take that factor out it looks the same. From these pics.

I disagree. The angle is close enough to make the difference visible. Look at the shut line of the hood in relation to the crease on the front fender at the top of both pictures. If anything the angle is such that the standard car would appear to have less room between the top of the tyre and the arch.

I do remember seeing something that claimed that the US cars do not get a drop but Euro cars do. Can't remember where it was though so I could be imagining it!

Yes, but also the sun is lighting more of the top part of the tire on the comp pack pic which makes the tire seem taller or as if it's filling the gap more. I read somewhere the same thing as well.

Hunter, looks like you are correct.

I've matched up the wheels in the two pictures and superimposed the standard car on the CP car, there is no significant difference in the distance between the edge of the rim (both 20 inch) and the top of the arch.
