New to me M6 convertible

I've been hovering around for a while, deciding whether to buy. I had the usual concerns, but did a lot of research and made a few calls. In the end, I felt pretty comfortable with this scenario. I accept that I need to change the rod bearings at some point. I plan to change the oil frequently and use heavy weight. I will send the oil for analysis every or every other time, hoping to catch a problem before it's too late. I don't plan on using it too much, so I'll keep it on a battery tender in the garage. I just hope that I don't get hit with a bunch of unexpected issues.

I've always wanted an M car; I always thought it would be an M5, but I ended up buying an E63S in 2014 when the awd became available. I still love the AMG and will keep it for the foreseeable future, but I wanted a convertible. Wasn't interested in spending a lot for a kick around car. I fell in love with the M6 and started looking. Found exactly what I wanted on Carvana for what I thought was a good price. I plan on taking it to the dealer for a PPI. I'll decide if I want to keep it or have the repairs done in the 100 day window. It's getting delivered in 3 days. Can't wait.

Right on! Congrats on the convertible. Do you have pics from the listing?

Is it gray or silver? Think I've seen it somewhere

Only white for me with a preference for black top and interior. Executive package, Driver Assist Plus and B&O were a must. I was on the fence with the Competition package, as I wasn't sure if the suspension feel would be too firm. The extra horses aren't an issue for me, but the exhaust sound is a plus. This was a find for me

Wow! Very nice and that is a great price point for getting in on this future classic.

Looks like it has the 601 Wheels. I think they might have plasti-dipped or powder coated. It looks stunning in its factory finish. So if you start thinking about changing the wheel consider taking them back to factory.

I'm not a huge fan of black wheels. The sticker has the 601s as the installed option. I wasn't sure if they possibly came in black. I saw this video that showed a new M6 with black wheels.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeSpvnSSW5Q

I was considering getting new wheels, but thought I'd wait it out after seeing the video.

If they're not factory black, I'm hoping they're plasti-dipped. Don't know how hard it would be to remove it, but it's gotta be better than having to get them refinished.

Have another question ... what would be the threshold for 1) telling them to put it right back on the flatbed, or 2) returning it within 7 days after the PPI?

My thoughts on 1) reeks of smoke or is in really poor condition. 2) kind of up in the air on this one - if it can be repaired through the limited warranty, why not roll the dice? I suppose it may be an issue if it needs new brakes and tires which may not be covered by the warranty.

If it's a keeper, I plan on getting the necessary repairs performed and will have the oil, transmission, differential, brake fluids and coolant changed. I plan to send the oil for analysis to Blackstone, and send again for every other change. My threshold for replacing the rod bearings will be pretty low.

Thanks for the input!

I had my 343 wheels powdercoated, it actually looks OEM. From the pics, looks like they'll need to be refinished hard to tell

have not dealt with Carvana before so not too sure on how they operate. If you find that it has been smoked in but like the car you could get an ionizer from amazon for about 70 dollars and it will take care of the smell. The brake job is a pretty easy DIY and gven the mileage it might be ready for the work. Tires are definitely a 1500+ dollar issue so if the brakes and tires need to be done it might be good cause to send it back or have them adjust the price down.

Just got the car delivered. Runs great. Everything seems to be running perfectly. Needs a little cosmetic work.

It definitely drives very differently from my Mercedes. It’s a much tighter feel, much more sporty. I keep my Benz in comfort mode, so it’s a relatively smooth ride. The M6 is a very different car. Fun to drive. It’s quiet with the top up and down.

Taking it to the dealer in 2 days. Curious to see if they come up with anything. Don’t see myself returning the car

I’ll post pics when I figure out how to.

Looks great! Also, it looks like it might be lowered a little but I have been away from my car now for nearly 2 months.

I wasn't sure if it was lowered. My first impression was that it was, but I compared it with videos and pictures of new cars, and thought it might be stock. The Competition package is supposed to lower it by 10mm, so I wasn't sure if that accounted for the look. For some reason, by my eye, white cars with black wheels visually look lower in the rear

Beautiful car and welcome to the club! Still shocks me how much car for the money you can get with these things. That's an insane price. I paid $39,500 2 years ago for my 13 Coupe with 42k miles, now has 46k mi and not parting with it any time soon.

Congratulations! Love your all black interior. You’re going to have some real top down pleasure over the next few weeks as the leaves turn. Enjoy!

Thanks. Just an update. Car is great. Getting a few issues taken care of under the warranty. It’s at the dealer. I started getting the drivetrain error under heavy acceleration. Codes show a misfire which, by my research, seems to be the problem with the S63tu motors. There’s also an a/c blower issue. I’m not too worried about

I had my AC recharged and seems to have worked. My SA told me it evaporates overtime which I've never heard before but my car IS 10 years old. You said you have misfire codes? Are you using bimmerlink? Are those codes permanent codes, error etc. If you are getting codes of misfires I would check injectors immediately. Faulty injectors can and will blow your motor.

^My A/C was recharged last summer as only hot air was coming out, this summer, the same thing occurred, and I highly doubt it evaporated :/ , The dealer charged me a diagnosis fee last summer, which was refundable if they find any leaks/faults with the A/C, didn't find anything and just filled up my freon... I am taking my car back to the dealer next week and yelling at them to fix my A/C, and definitely NOT paying a diagnosis fee this time around

A/C is a SEALED system. Refrigerant doesn't "evaporate", it leaks. They need to find the leak properly instead of just charging the system.

My 13 has freezing cold air still, with a metal rod thermometer my vent temps will reach 30s F.

Yup... They did a leak check with colored dye and found nothing, well obviously there is something - maybe the tech was inexperienced

my vent blowing lowest temperature feels like 70-80
