Driver's side window fault
Hi all,
Really pleased with my 640d GC, but have noticed that it has recently started having problems getting the driver's side window all the way up. I know it won't move with the door open, but now it mostly won't get the window up past the mid way point - I guess it is the anti-trap type location. It is worse when the car is not "on", and so much so the other day the window wouldn't go up when locking the car and holding down the BMW button on the key fob - passenger window went up no problem driver's stopped half way so i had to get in and start the engine then hold the window button to get it to go up. I've had a search around for other similar faults and haven't seen much for 5-series or 6 series, only the Z4? Any ideas appreciated. Car is due its first service shortly anyway so will be getting the dealer to sort it but just wondered if there was a simple fix? Thanks.

Something similar happened to me. It would go halfway up and then back down. BMW had to replace the window motor. It took two days....had to wait for the part.

Thanks for the responses. Yes it is under warranty still as only 15 months old. Will see what dealer says when I take it for its service sometime soonish.

Do you have tint on your windows? This happened to me too, and it was found by the dealer to be due to the incorrectly applied tint triggering the safety mechanism.

No, just the standard windows. Thanks for the idea.

I get this. I tried the trick of resetting the switch, but it didn't help. Highly inconsistent when it happens, so a motor fault makes sense.

Just taken it for service in the week and this was the problem. Fortunately they already had one in stock to sort it.

On mine ('14 640 ix Vert) with the roof down and all the windows down, when I close the roof the drivers side (left) rear window closes then reopens halfway, every time.
HOWEVER, if I first close all the windows together (one switch) then close the roof, it NEVER happens. Doesn't sound like motor issue to me. |
