Honestly I like them both, differently. I've had an M4 for a little less than a year before the M6. Both are excellent cars but they do serve different purposes.

The first immediate difference coming off the M4 to M6 was that M4 was clearly lighter, more agile and handled better. You can definitely feel the length and the weight of the M6 more noticeably.

M6 is a good bit quicker in every gear than the M4 and accelerates much more fiercely. Mine is a competition package so I am not sure how much the difference from the non-competition model would feel.

Brakes feel equally strong. M6 has carbon ceramics and M4 had regular disks.

M6 is a lot more luxurious feeling inside in terms of materials. M6 is fully optioned out and M4 was fully optioned except brakes.

M6 is more comfortable all around. M4 felt a bit stiffer and louder.

Bang and Olufsen is out of this world! Harmon Kardon in M4 has nothing on it.

I think I hit the high points on the key differences that I could come up with.

Agree with you. M6 gives you a very good balance of sportiness and luxury at the same time. The interior is on a different level compared to the M4.
