Beware

It's been 2900 miles with the beast and my oil-top-off light came on this morning on my way to work.

First time having to top it off so hopefully this means little to no blow-by.

I was debating going to the dealer for the free top off or just using an old quart I had laying around at my residence from my E90 M3.

Thankfully! I just went to the dealer. Turns out this car doesn't take the traditional dedicated and branded 10W-60 castrol M oil, but instead takes a 5W-30.

So M drivers beware- hopefully this isn't a repost.

So true.. event BMW Assist told me to go with 10W-60.. be careful! Its 5W-30 for sure.

I have been putting in Mobil 1: 0w-30. Do u think this has caused any harm to my f13 engine?

I am on my second quart at about 10K. Annoying but I hear not abnormal. 5W-30 full synthetic Gastrol.

No. You are in a warmer climate so 0w-30 is fine. If you were in an area where temps fluctuate(hot-freezing) then 5w-30.
