What should I look for in a used M6?

I'm thinking about picking up a used M6 coupe. Probably around 2014. What should I know/look for in terms of options/reliability/price? Thanks.

If you want a factory extended warranty, you must buy before the original warranty expires. The 2014s that were sold in late 2013 are getting close.

The B & O stereo is a nice option.

Many insist on full leather.

in terms of problems, look out for squeaky seats, if any, at least you can pick up on it.
Steering vibration at high speed 90mph +, you must test drive it at that speed, ignore the sales rep and tell him to shut up whilst at it.
do look for its repair history, high oil consumnption.
Ask the question how frequently the engine has been topped up.
that will put you at ease once you know how clean the car is.

I will also add to make sure all maintenance was done (especially oil changes).

If the brakes were not recently done, budget $1500-2000

A 2014 would still be under factory warranty under the 4 year 50k. I bought a 2013 that was close, but still warranted. it had a few problems with it, bought it anyway, then I brought it to my dealer after purchase and they fixed it no problem. Gives you some peace of mind.

I think a 2014, well optioned, 20k miles.....that will probably be closer to $65k or even $70k (if with comp package). another $5k if its CPO

If you are looking for something in $60k range, I would be surprised if you find anything later than 2013 models.

Cpo.bmwusa.com and cargurus.com can of course show you the current price range. pricing has become a lot more transparent the last few years

If it's a 2014, and still has time on factory warranty, does the maintenance warranty transfer as well?

Yes, for model year 2014, no for 2015. CPO does not transfer unless doen through dealer.

To extend factory warranty through BMW must be done before warranty expires.

How much should an extended warranty be...
I just paid $5100 for 6/70; saved $570 by buying at BMW Towson

My local dealer gave me these quotes:

6 year/100k $5990.00 plus tax
6 year/100k $7430.00 plus tax
6/70k $5352.00 plus tax
7/70k $6120.00 plus tax.

Just a correction to my own comment....these prices that I mentioned are for a convertible. Just re read and saw you are looking at a coupe so these won't apply. Apologies -
