How bad is the RWD?

So finally I got a dealer to give me a good deal on an M6GC. I'm about to pull the trigger, but I was just wondering how bad is the RWD on the car? My brother (had 2 M3s, Audi S5, among many other cars) says that its a huge mistake getting an M6 because of the RWD. He says you basically can't do anything with the car or you lose traction and spin out. He calls it a "highway monster". He says with an Audi you can punch the car around corners and really "fly" around with it. He said that I'm going to constantly lose control of the car and probably crash it a few times. I have never driven an AWD car, I am used to 4matic with Mercedes. Is there any truth to what he is saying?

LOL... you are an interesting guy...
1. You ask about hints for a good deal on M6.
2. You get a good offer.
3. You let us know that you already bought an M3.
4. You let us know you finally got M6
5. You ask about RWD...
Haha... how do you want to pay 100k for a car you have never had any experience with her soul???
Yes this is a 600+ HP, 550+ lb-ft torque, 4400 lb, RWD. She is a real monster. You can see how this car beats fast/powerful cars here:

Driving this car for people have no experience with high performance RWD cars is scary. You need to get used to it and please don't do crazy stuff.

There is a guy in CA totaled his RWD M6:

RWD M6GC is insane... Be careful with her... listen to your brother

Yeah, you can't do anything with the car without spinning out, and will crash it a few times. Sounds completely reasonable.

I didn't buy an M3 my brother has had 2 in the past. I'm asking a lot of questions because I am only 22 and this is sort of a big financial commitment for me so I am trying not to make a stupid decision. This is only my 3rd car my previous two were a C300 and a CLS550 so this M6 is obviously going to be significantly different.

I just got extremely nauseous reading about the guy who crashed his M3. He lives 10 minutes from me a town over. RWD and NY really don't mix.

Oh my bad... sorry that was another guy LOL
But seriously are you 22 years old??
Buddy let me tell you like your brother... forget about M6. I'm serious. You will crash it and kill yourself. You are young. Start with a car like 435 or 335 and drive it for 2-3 years to get used to RWD car. This car is not built for your age especially in NY. Trust me... Most of people here are older than you and have experience with this type of power and RWD car.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not your average 22 year old. I am very responsible and I don't plan on being "reckless" with the car. I can't explain why but there is something about the M6 that makes me want it more than other car. I went and looked at Audi and MB. There was nothing that "attracted" me like the M6. Even if I am really careful you still think it will be a problem?

I did test drive one for about 5 minutes. The saleswoman begged me to drive it slowly so I never really got a great feel for the car. I see people my age driving M3s and M4s. Is that M6 that much different? (other than quality and price tag).

Yes. The issue is that this car is so tempting. Once you depress the gas pedal, She goes like a rocket...

I had RWD cars here in Chicago from 1995-2011. Good snow tires made the car just fine. I've now had AWD since 2011 and I'm not sure I can go back. It is not the snow (where those summer tires will render the car useless unless you put a set of winters on) - it is the rain, the snow, the sleet, etc. and the ability to pull out and just get across the street without worry. I love it. Not sure I can go back.

Except that damn M3 is looking so juicy....

With all due respect- but don't listen to your brother. If the M6 were truly a death trap as he portrays it to be- you really think it'd have as many respectable reviews/such praise from all car enthusiasts alike?

I'm relatively young for owning an m6- I'm 26, and that means nothing when it comes to respecting the car. I came from a TOYOTA YARIS, and as my dude M6-coupe said, the biggest thing is not getting over confident with the car, because things can get uncomfortable very quickly.

However/ if you plan to drive the car like an asshole, then simply go for an awd. Not only will you be safer and more familiar with it- more importantly, you won't endanger those around you on the road.

Dude have you ever driven M3?
So far I have driven one M3 MT and two M4 MT and DCT.
If you love the look of M3 you need to test drive the MT one.
I believe the first gear of DCT is "too much" for M3/M4. Lots of useless torque is transferred to the rear wheel. MT has much better drivability and fun.

Disagree with you buddy
First of all, you are 26 years old and he is 22 years old.
Second, you are living in CA and he is living in NY
Third, your car is Manual and he is looking for DCT
Fourth, your previous car was RWD while he has never driven RWD car.
Fifth, who said M6 is a suitable car for you too? LOL

And 2. I have my m6 is in Mexico City. My 2016 m6 is the one going to CA.

I don't care what you say- driving in ANY part of Mexico is 100 times worse than NYC. Don't believe me? Come out for a weekend. The drivers out here will make NYC drivers look like kittens!

Yeah I know where you live and I don't care if is CA or Mexico... My point was about weather, rain, snow, ice and driving under those circumstance not the way people around you drive...
My points were about experience ... and also "ego" of young people if it makes sense ... obviously

Yeah, ridiculous hail and thunderstorms don't count for anything *rolls eyes*. But you're right- we don't get snow out here

Mexico is not a joke to drive in and the fact you keep an M6 there is surprising to me. Where I am that M6 would be gone in 5 minutes unless you are super well connected.
I am however on the other side of the border most of the time and not Mexico.

As for the RWD I think the weight of the M6 would be helpful in learning.

But 1. Don't hate on a self made man! Lol blessed to have monetized on my talents early on

And 2. I have my m6 is in Mexico City. My 2016 m6 is the one going to CA.

I don't care what you say- driving in ANY part of Mexico is 100 times worse than NYC. Don't believe me? Come out for a weekend. The drivers out here will make NYC drivers look like kittens!

I live around the corner from France /polanco in the heart of Mexico City- so my m6 blends into the crowd with all of the "individuals" (I think we both know who and what we're talking about) own and drive their lambos, bentleys, ferraris- I even saw a Bugatti once.

First week I moved in however- I was approached by random gentlemen simply "asking" who I was and what I'm doing in the area. I'm assuming after they saw that I'm no threat in any means necessary/ I've been left alone

The weather isn't always favorable/ but I'm just grateful we don't get snow. Growing up in Seattle- I can deal with rain, hail, thunderstorms- but if it snowed, as m6-coupe mentioned- is the only element in not accustomed to.

Its really very simple. If youre worried about the RWD just drive the car with DSC on. It'll feel like an AWD as the car corrects itself very well once it feels theres any loss of traction. If you want to get the most out of the car then obviously you'll have to drive with DSC off but just go to a local track and learn how to drive it with DSC off.

Noway M6 feels like AWD at all!
And yes car corrects itself if the condition is good (temperature, road,...); however in rainy, snowy and icey condition, even with DSC ON you might lose the control. It's not about DSC, it's about the laws of physic...

From user's manual:

DSC prevents traction loss in the driving wheels when driving away and accelerating. DSC also recognizes unstable vehicle conditions,
such as fishtailing or nose-diving. Subject to physical limits, DSC helps to keep the vehicle on a steady course by reducing engine speed
and by applying brakes at individual wheels. Adjust your driving style to the situation An appropriate driving style is always the responsibility of the driver. The laws of physics cannot be repealed, even with DSC.
Therefore, do not reduce the additional safety margin by driving in a risky manner.
