I don't understand the purpose of this over the 5-series....?

And it's nothing special in the design dept either...Not that much different from F10.

A5 and A7 sportbacks are hatches...so they sort of fill a niche, but this is just crowding the 5's market.

As for the Gran Coupe, when it was first posted a while back, it looked amazing and cool but looking at it today, I'm asking myself "why?". The 6-series to me was the sporty model but adding 2 more doors, it takes that away and I'm wondering why would you get that if you could have a 5 series which is probably the better car overall.
seems like 10 years ago this was the exact opposite, I remember when Mercedes used to cost $10K more than BMW.

why have a 5, 6, and 7 series sedan? why not just make the 7 series design more like a gran coupe and call it a day.

The Z4 vs SLK pricing is not correct, you are comparing the base engine Z4 to the SLK350, should be comparing it to the Z4 35i (same horsepower and options). and then teh prices are almost identical ($1K off)

although I do find it funny how Mercedes jumped the SLK price up to match BMW even though they didn't make as many improvements to it as BMW did to the Z4, the Z4 is much nicer now for the price but thats a different debate, for $54K I don't know who in their right mind would pick a SLK350 over a Z4 35i

Scott nice avatar... back to topic, imo if they just make the front door a little long, it will be more coupe-ish... its not bad.. and I hope they don't add a B-pillar, cause thats just gonna ruin it

You mean massive body roll, a steering system that is not connected to the front wheels, and the engine note played through the speaker system?!?!?!?!

Even up until recently, I always thought Mercedes had higher price tag given all the things that are included vs. BMW which now just has the high price tag but lack included equipment/options.

I don't think you could mess with the 7-Series. Just off the picture of the Gran Coupe, it wouldn't fit what the 7-series is about: the ultimate luxury executive sedan. I think they shouldn't even introduce a Gran Coupe, and I go back to my argument that if you're looking for comfort and performance, a 5-Series is the no-brainer. All you're getting with the 6 Series Gran Coupe is the sporty look and even that aspect goes down a bit with 4 doors and I could imagine it to be pretty expensive given the current pricing of the 6er - the GC would have to cost more.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks this is the best look for the 6er? I always thought that the new coupe & convertible looked like a slightly softer sedan, except without four doors. This just looks natural and right as a sedan, although it obviously isn't as extreme as the CLS in the swoopy, sexy curve department. I like it, I think it looks more appropriate for the design of the current 6er coupe & convertible to have the four doors, partly because of how massive the car is, and partly because it just looks right.

I don't understand the hate??? I prefer this over a 5 series. It's unique and has better styling in my opinion. If there wasn't an M6 this would be the best looking F model 6 series.

you don't even know what the m6 looks like yet, and you are going off the looks of this car based of black and white computer sketches?

I think this car will look amazing if it looks anything like the Gran Coupe concept

Not feeling it at all. And to say the M6 will be a whole lot diff from the 650 is crazy.

It'll be 80% of the same look. Wider here and there and a tweak to the nose and tail but come on, it will totally look like what we have already seen.

Sorry, BMW makes good cars but not all are that nice. Cant be a fanboy on everything they do.

Look at the Bangle 5 series, mehhhh, ok but the new 5 is nicer and so too is the 7.

This car is effin gorgeous. Perfect proportions, soft traditional elegant lines with a sports car flavor. No strange bangle shapes, everything is soft to the eye! Everyone one of you haters will swallow your words when you see if in real life with M sport pkg / a m-series version. I guarantee it.

I'm not saying it doesn't look good. I enjoyed the pics of the Grand Coupe when I saw them quite sometime ago. However, I just don't see the point. The whole point of the 6 series has always been about being a two door version of the 5 series.

Now the 6 needs to be a sedan as well as a coupe? I just think it's pointless. IMO If they liked the look of this Grand Coupe concept they should have just incorporated more of the aesthetic in the five series. I like the backend on this concept way more than on the current 5 series (which overall I like a lot).

Just update the new 5 to look more like this, drop the whole even number for coupe ideas, and get back to what you do best BMW.

They want to offer something between the 5 and the 7 series. Hence the 6 series coupe-sedan that looks nothing like a coupe unless you're smoking pot. I insist on them making something between a 5 and a 6 or between a 6 and a 7. 5.5 series and a 6.5 series. And an almost 8 series called 7.5 series...you know...for the folks who deserve something better than a 7 series but don't just cut it for an 8 series yet.
No doubt.
