Possible to retrofit 650i square tips on 640d?

As title, does anyone know if there is an easy way to but the square tips from the 650 onto the 640d? Aftermarket is fine as long as it looks original/good!

Hi 325! I did it to mine, aftermarket parts, looks exactly like original. For these ones you have to cut off next to the muffler and you put the new ones there. You search it on ebay, mine costed around 270 euros.

I did search but couldn't find a good replacement. Could you send me a link possibly? Also I presume you had to replace the rear lower valance too?

Thanks! Did they need welding or did they slip over? Could I be cheeky and ask for a picture of yours!? Not sure I like how far they stick out

No welding needed, you put the new ones over the end of the original pipes, but you need to cut the original ones first. I can send you a picture tomorrow, I have no good one which shows how it looks.

But how far they should stick out is a very delicate question...

Hi,
should work fine !
It fits to M-Sports package .. not M-Performance muffler ...

You need the diffusor with part number 51128050378 .. same as shown in the link.

Btw., I have the square tips on my 640d .. but no M-Sports package ..

wow that looks great, exactly what I want. So is that the retrofit kit on yours? Did you just remove the old tips and slide them over?

Also do I need part number 2 in this diagram?

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=03_0253

I see you have it on yours, but don't know if your purchased it separately.

Is the trim gloss black? I can't tell from your picture?

Andy
The rear bumper in the picture above, ( bronze car). is not the same as the one we have in the uk...
Check out the rear diffuser and the bumper... The reflectors are in the bumper not above it as in uk cars....
Will what you have ordered fit...?
Let us all know.
Cheers
Al

by the way, if all the parts fit then I think I might consider getting the tips powder coated to not be bright chrome. Opinions? Original tips are black, satin/light gloss it seems. I could do similar but gloss black would be the easiest to get someone to do. Would you do it black of some sort of leave it shiny? I do like the odd bit of chrome on a dark coloured car, so maybe it will look good and obviously be OEM rather than "modified" so to speak, which I tend to prefer.

Further update...

it seems the OEM on the 650i etc ARE black chrome, however they aren't tips, they are part of the rear muffler, see here:

The OEM for the M sport retrofit package I've bought is meant to be chrome, it's a specific retrofit designed for the 640d, so maybe I should leave it as chrome, but will make a decision when it arrives.

I'd probably keep them chrome, especially if I had them on mine (silver). Black on dark may also make them 'disappear' a little.

I'm thinking I probably will, but the original tips I have (factory fit) are black and the don't get lost but equally they don't stand out too much. I don't like to be too in your face, so I think I just need to see how it looks. I will fit them (providing they are correct fitment) and post a picture up for opinions. I can always get them powered coated afterwards.

Does anyone have a guide to removing the lower trim that needs to be replaced? Do you need to remove the whole bumper or can it be removed seperately?

Hi all

I haven't received my parts yet, looks like they got stuck at customs. I've been debating whether to stick with chrome tips or get them ceramic coated. I managed to find the possibly single picture on the web of someone with my colour (or similar) 640d, with the m sport bumper and diffuser, who has done the conversion and left them chrome. What do you think?
