Tires for XDrives

I want to change the tires on my 650 Xi GC. I love wider tires on the rear, but a BMW specialist told me that for AWDs it is better not to have wider tires on the rear. I was planning to put 275/35/20 on the rear and 245/40/20 on the front, any thoughts?

The main consideration with Xdrive is that the tire diameters must be very close to the same for the front and rear. I suspect that you have a "square" wheel set meaning both front and rear wheels are exactly the same. If that's true and the 245 wide tire is the recommended tire for the wheel you have then I believe the 275 is probably too wide for the wheel. For expert advice discuss your situation with a rep at "TireRack" and they will tell you what is recommended.

245/35/20 and 275/30/20 are standard bmw staggered sizes on the F06. But on a 8.5J front and 9J rear wheel. Then, there's no problem with xdrive.
If you have a square setup with four 8.5J wheels, then it's difficult. 275 is probably too wide for 8.5J. Maybe trade in two wheels for the wider version? Or use the square setup with winter tires and get a complete new staggered set (don't know if that's an option money or weather wise).

My f06 xdrive came with 245/40/19 and 275/35/19 as factory standard.

With the "square" setup from BMW the fronts and rears are the same 8.5 wheel with 245/40/19 tires.

I agree that's a great Michelin tire, quiet, soft, great traction and good year round. Have them on my Corvette. They also have a ZP version (runflat). Unfortunately not available in 245/40/19 size yet, but I expect that to change soon.

What about just the A/S 3's?

So the A/S 3 Plus is coming in that size?

Actually I have the older A/S 3 version of the tire on the Corvette and it's a great tire (discontinued) and I can only expect the "Plus" to be a better tire all around. They already make the A/S 3 Plus in 245/40/19 size. Right now the sizes in the run flat version are very limited but the TireRack rep said if history is any guide they will make them other sizes in the near future. The closest right now is 245/35/19.

Thank you for the information. I had a square setup, style 351, but I changed it to style 373 which are staggered.
