Got rear ended in a 640i and BMW part takes 3 Months to ship

I got rear ended in a 640i convertible.

The electronic parts at the rear of the car require 3 months to deliver.

I can't drive the car for 3 months! Does BMW compensate for this lost time?

Did anyone else have this problem?

sorry to see this happened to you.

isn't it more of something you should discuss with the insurance company rather than manufacture?

unfortunately i must complain to the manufacturer (BMW) because insurance company simply covers the cost of the repairs and 30 days of rental car.

I used to have S2000 back in 03, and it did take 3 months for parts to come when I had accident. I went to visit the car at the shop once or twice a week for 3 months.

I'm 100% it doesn't take BMW three months to get the parts. i'm sure this lies somewhere else. Normally it takes a couple of days to get parts.

3 months sounds excessive but on the other hand if this is a 13' they probably haven't stocked a lot spare parts as they are still ramping production and it not like its high volume car like the 3 or 5 series. However, I wouldn't know how the logistics would go between you, your insurance company and BMW. There doesn't seem to be any motive for the insurance company to expedite the parts. The longer it sits the longer they can wait to cut a check. GL

I have to assume things work differently in the US?

In the UK if you're rear ended its pretty much an open and shut case, wthi liability falling on the other party. The other party's insurer would have to pay for all repairs and any other inconvenience (rental car, until yours can be repaired).

I can only assume the 30 day limit is with your insurer and they aren't expecting to recoup the costs from the other insurer before then. Therefore you have to pay for the remaining rental period yourself, subsequently claiming it from the other parties insurer. If that's e case I'd kick up a fuss with your insurer and ask them to put pressure on the other parties insurer to cough up for the rental portion of the claim quickly, or find a way to get the parts for your car.

Had a similar issue with my E64 M6...was in accident and they had car for 3 months....mostly waiting on parts. Surprisingly, you'd think they would overnight ship these parts but they normally don't....they ship them normal airmail through the postal service with no tracking and no real way to know why they are coming in except estimates from the postal service. No doubt a PIA....
