2 M3 E46, coupe (loved) vert (not so much); 3 E93 M3s, loved them all, M Roadster, great fun, sold due to recessions, ZM Roadster, too small, to low as i got older, love my M6 but it is too big so will likely go back to M4 next year.

No offense to the M5/M6 crowd, but they're never going to be considered the best M cars due to their size and weight. M cars were built to be small, light, quick, well balanced, etc. The e30 is always considered since it was the first. I've owned/own an e36, e46, and e9x. My favorite is the e36 because of what it was which can never be repeated. IMHO, the best all around M is the e90/e92. Comfort, design and near perfect handling with the best engine BMW has ever built. The e46 was such an amazing upgrade to the e36 with the screaming S54 engine, but it was still too raw compared to the e9x. If we are talking about the best M5, the e39 will never be matched by any of the current versions.

"My favorite is the e36 because of what it was which can never be repeated. " How? Why? In US tune it was slow, and non-discript. E39 M5 was not small or light. E46 M3 was probably the best balance of power, size and looks imho. I haven't driven the M2 but I suspect that could be a winner here.

The original M cars were light and nimble, modern M cars are designed to appeal to a broader audience that want more luxury and must comply with safety legislation, they are thus much heavier.

I agree that the E39 M5 was the sweet spot for the M5, it's a car that's great at almost everything, but not outstanding at anything, the perfect Q car.

There was an M car before the E30 ...

Out of all three M cars I've owned. An E39 M5, an E60 M5 and the F06 M6 GC. I have to say that out of all of them the E39 was my favourite. By no means was it a light car but it just felt right. The E60 had a wonderful exhaust note, and it was an absolute blast when you heard it kickdown from 7th gear into 3rd and roar up to 8250rpm. The M6 is monstrously fast, it literally scares me sometimes how quickly it can get up to crazy speeds. The E39 though was just a proper drivers car. I had the ability to use all of it's power and enjoy throwing it around the corners. The E60 and F06 just have far too much power, you just can't use all of it. I must say that I loved the old manual box as well, it just worked in the E39. I know that BMW offer manual gearboxes in the E60 and F06 but they don't suit the character of the car. The SMG box of the E60 was appalling around town but great when you put it in M mode. They really stepped up the game with the new DCT box but it's so fast at shifting you hardly notice it, and I think that loses some of the character of the car. Don't get me wrong I love my M6 and I think it's a beautiful car, however as a drivers car. It's the E39 any day!

Well although M5/M6 are heavy and big but they are quick and well balanced. They are nimble too but of course not as nimble as E30.
To prove this you can take a look at the real competition between M5 and M4 to see M5 is not slower than M4 over the track.

As far as E9x , I agree they are great M cars ut compare to F8x they are missing the big factor and that's "torque' which change the performance a lot and that's why F8x is faster than F8x everywhere including nurburgring ring.

And if you add in these two videos I'd really like to see a few more M4 vs M6 Coupe comparisons. Not the Gran Coupe as it really is just an M5 in wheelbase and slightly heavier.

Well at least we are sure M6-Coupe is faster than all of current M cars (except the F90M5 which is not popular yet) on straight lines ... including M4

M6GC if you want a 4 door, M6 coupe otherwise.. There really is no comparison, and even if the only modification you do to it is a tune, forget about it! The thing is so fast and easy to drive with the traction systems in place that there's not much out there that can compete with it. An M5/6 with comp package and a BMS JB4 tune on map 2 pushes right around 650whp and 680wtq on pump gas, you're talking supercar power with insane amounts of torque. Made it an easy decision for me.

Hey guys

I know this is going to seem stupid but I am currently looking for a very very specific car.
I just lost my GTR in the flood in Houston, so I started looking for my next car. I really have my heart set on a M6 GC but it has to be a very specific color combo.

I am looking for a 2013 and up M6 grancoupe with the san marino exterior and sakhir orange interior. I really have my heart set on that color and i know its hard to find but ill wait it out as much as i can. i will be uploading a pic for attention but if you or anyone you know that has what i am lookin for and is looking to sell, i would appreciate it if you could pass along my info.

i dont really check my pm's too much on here so ill be leaving my number. my name is sonny and my number is 832-860-2425.

i would appreciate the help and would love to buy one asap.

Thanks for the read!

The dealer can tell if you flash the car, aside from the fact that they have to drill a hole in your ECU, just like Porsche, the BMW has a flash counter and the dealer can see that the car was flashed. With the JB4, if it is not installed when you bring it to the dealer, it was never on your car
