Purchasing an M6 that's had its engine replaced

So I am cross posting this here because there’s usually more action on this side

So looking to get back in the game, and was talking with a dealership about a used 15 M6 GC....... they just disclosed that apparently the car had heavy mods to the motor and ecu, they found metal chards in oil pan....so they actually sourced a low mileage motor from BMW and replaced the motor. They claim to have the appropriate documentation to support.

Long story short..... although I’m not completely green, looking for feedback.
Any experiences?
Would anyone consider buying this car after that?
Should i run for the hills?

What kind of damage to the value does this cause?

Thanks crew

A few things to consider, if the car was tuned heavily before, it was probably driven hard. But this is just a guess, I know a lot of people with modified cars that baby them and many with stock cars that beat on them. Is this a BMW dealership? If it is, I would trust them for the most part and see if it can be CPO-ed.

Problem can also lie in the used engine. Where was that used engine sourced from?

Accident damaged car? How badly was it damaged...and so on.

Definitely a gamble that could work out. Resale value will definitely be affected.

Unless an incredible deal, it probably makes more sense to just find another car without the baggage.

Used hard? How's the tranny and other bits that also get stressed?

Unless you're getting super screaming good deal (and something like 90 day full warranty just in case), i'd pass.

On the other end of this, let's say you do buy it. You are nervous about getting straight from dealer, right? How would your feelings change if you were buying it in a private party sale? Say the car is $10K cheaper now. Great. When you go to unload it, is it worth $10K less than a clean one? $5K less? $15K less?

Point being, while yes you're tying up more $ to get a clean one, fast forward to selling time and you might actually not have cost yourself any $.

Given what you know there needs to be a strong incentive to buy it over another M6.

Could be a free extended warranty, a deep discount, or some combination of both. If it’s priced at the market price with no incentive why bother?

Point taken from all! Haha

You’ve confirmed my fears and feelings. What a support group we have here.

The dealer caught me off guard a bit with the info, and admittedly i was pretty hot in the car prior to this info.

Funnily enough, if you see my history... my last experience was a brand new M3 that ended up a buyback ..... so why would i even consider this?

Thanks

good decision, you at least won't regret this decision. BTW, have you checked my running log of GC for sale?

http://www.6post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1445451

Based on my record, at least 2-3 members on this forum has purchased the car on my list.

Yes, I had in fact stumbled upon this, and appreciate your work. Apparently I wasn’t the only one scouring the internet for used M6 GCs
Thank you for your hard work!

Here is a link to the car mentioned in my post, as an opportunity, or buyer beware for others. Also, nothing at all against the dealer selling the car, as they were very upfront and honest.
