Tires For A 2015 650iX Gran Coupe

Acquired my first 6 series last Friday, a 2015 CPO 650iX Gran Coupe with M Sports and 20" wheels. Very happy with the car, love the way it looks and drives. Car has Bridgestone Potenza RE050A RFT all round (245/35R20 front and 275/30R20 rear). I believe these are the same tires BMW supplies with the car new? However, these tires are described as "Max Performance Summer". I usually like using "All Season" tires. A quick search on Tire Rack indicates there are no all season RFT in this size. Should I be concerned or just continue to use the tires I have? I live in NW Indiana, consequently it gets cold here and we have snow.

My daily driver is a 550iX with all season tires. Consequently I can use this car if snow is a problem with the 650iX RFT.

I had those Potenzas (albeit in 19") on a Pontiac G8GT 10 years ago. I can assure you, they will not perform in cold/snow. I even experienced flat-spotting when leaving the car parked in the cold (below 0C) for a few days. ymmv

For standard driving, I actually am one of those that like the OE Dunlops. But they aren't meant for cold and snow either.

You could try the Michelin Pilot Alpins for winter use, but I'm not sure if there's a RFT option available.

i'm looking on tirerack right now to replace the Run Flat's -- have a Bubble in each one!

I personally HATE the run-flats and many people do --- The decision to gewt all season vs summer tires is your choice -- right now I have Dunlap Summer Run Flats --- being that the car has All wheel drive it still gets around in the Snow -- but not as Good as the All season

If i were you I would go with the All-Season's -- and not worry about the Run Flat's -- as they drive like crap anyways -- you'll be able to se how the car handles once you drive with non Run Flats

hope that helps a little?

I just upgraded my wheels from factory 19" to custom 20" all 4 same size because According to my dealer all-wheel-drive needs to have a same size if I went staggered they would not do alignments or any work on those wheels

Same diameter is not recommended, it is required for x drive. Note that same diameter and same size are not the same thing. You can use staggered tires, but the diameter must be the same, +/- the 1% difference they allow,

Your dealer is an idiot - you can order an F06/12/13 with a staggered wheels and tires.

Summer only tires get very "greasy" in temps below 40 degrees F and are not recommended.

Many thanks for everyones input. Apparently, according to the build sheet, the car originally came with staggered wheels. Certainly drives just fine. I am going to go with the general consensus of opinion and change the RFTs to regular tires (probably Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06). I had the same nightmare issue with RFTs on my 550i, eventually gave up with them and changed to regular tires (Dunlop Signature HP, no spare though) and have been very happy ever since.

Your dealer knows exactly what it is... they just don't want to help you.
