They were mostly immigrants from eastern EU and middle eastern countries running them. Quite a number of them were run by the Greeks. They were my favor place to have lunch during college verse eating in the School Café. I agree the hipsters think they came up with the idea, all they did was put vinyls on the outside and charge restaurant prices and this some how made the food taste better. Oh lets not forget they offer Vegan, no GMO's, GF, and the list goes on.
They have come and gone where I live. All the hipsters thought they could make a quick buck by opening up Vietnamese/Russian fusion food trucks. They have pretty much all come and gone. The hype has died.

If you already have a "cushy job" there is no need to turn life around. Not sure you know what that means...
He wasn't happy, left his job and didn't work for few years. He was pursuing other things. Now he's happy doing what he loves. I think doing what you love is more important than making a lot of money (of course it doesn't hurt if you do).

Impressive, but it can be done cheaper and nicer.

Hats off to the guy though for getting it done.

Just because a job is "cushy" doesn't mean you enjoy it. Most of my jobs have been pretty "cushy", still hated most of them.

Again, that's not turning life around. Turning life around is flipping burgers, living in mom's basement, 0 in the bank & no ambition to great paying job, your own place, goals, etc.

I really don't understand the appeal of these tiny houses for a primary residence. As a secondary property, I would love one as a ski shanty. I've seen a few of the shows about people building these to live in stating they want a simpler life or to save money.

The thing is, most of the people in the shows ended placing their tiny house on a friend or family member's property. Well how long will that last for? Wouldn't you eventually need to buy or rent your own property to place your house on? And what are they doing about utilities? It just seems like most of the people building these aren't thinking everything through.

I do find the tiny house on the show Life in Pieces to be amusing.

Again, lots of (young) folks are obsessed with being different for the sake of being different. This is just an example of it.

But it's not different when they all jump on the bandwagon. Stupid millennials.

I like the *concept* but the example in the OP is way too small....And also don't like the idea of using septic tanks vs hooked up to city water.

The idea of not striving to have a.canyon as your bed/living/etc/room is good as it's just wasted space.
