M6 vs keeping M3 ? Or maybe M4??

Thought I'd ask you geniuses for your opinion...

I purchased an 08 M3 e93 (hardtop convertible) back in 2011 with 18k mi. For the most part the M3 has been a joy to own / drive. M3 now has 79k miles and recently had the alternator go out ($1600 repair). It also needs new plugs ($500) and a few other minor things. The alternator going out was a nice reminder that the car is getting old... older.

Got appraised at CarMax for about $22k cash offer. I still owe about $8,500. My local CarMax has a really nice 2015 M4 (also hard top convertible). Thats one option.

Another option is im already approved for a 2014 M6 Gran Coupe with 33k miles. I had them quote me with a 5yr / 60k mi extended warranty (3rd party). Found it online at an out of state BMW dealer. Has competition package, exec package, driver assist plus... pretty much everything but the upgraded ceramic brakes. Found it for $64k. Pretty much about $10k under book if you ask me (based on some research). That's option 2. Option 3 being keep the M3 and hope for the best on break downs. I'd be done paying in Nov 2017.

What to do... what to do??

Something that I find interesting is that the E93 and F83 are both about 4150lbs with a full tank, the F13 is 4250lbs and the F06 is 4430lbs.

I suspect that the F13 (which also has a similar length wheelbase to your current car, 2761mm vs 2850mm will feel very similar, but the interior is massively improved upon and the car is massively faster.

The F06 is a bit heavier and bigger though, with a 2968mm wheelbase and nearly 300lbs heavier. I'd suggest taking one with the Comp Pack for a good drive first to see if you are ok with the weight.

I owned 3 E93 convertibles. At the end of last year I had about 60k to spend and looked at the following used cars: 2015 M4; 2015 Jaguar F type, 2014 Jaguar XKR and 2013 M6. I chose the M6 because it was the best looking, most powerful, and most comfortable. The M4 was just not much of an upgrade to the E93, the F type was to small inside, the XKR was nicer but only had a six speed slush box. That said, after 8k miles, I have one issue, its size. It is far bigger than I am used to and I have nicked the front end twice. Now I am paranoid when parking. Other than that, it is a great car.
