Just muffler delete. I left in the resonators. If this doesn't work with coding (since I can't find the damn module to simply disconnect it!), I did find a very interesting possible solution. See posts 19 and 21 in the link below.

It's definitely an option. I mentioned that initially, they're called 'J' pipes or Helmhotz pipes. It basically changes or cancels the low frequencies caused by drone. There are instances where they don't work though so make sure your muffler shop knows what they're doing.

Right on! I saw that picture you showed me but didn't realize it was the same thing. I may discuss that with the shop.

Chirping in. Feel for ya man, hate the drone. I just put in the Dinan stage 2 tune (love it) but passed on doing anything exhaust related even though Dinan adds 10hp and sound pretty good. But not sure on their low RPM sound and drone.

My old corvette had brutal drone, and I swore that my next car would be whisper quiet but with lots of power (done)! BMW 650i 2012. What could be better.

Looks, I actually like the square tips on my 650.

Power, without it, why do it. Installing M6 cat back, I may be in, if its quiet and reasonable price but sounds good when into the throttle. Show me how an I may be in.

I must say there is a lot of engineering in the exhaust as is, would be hard to get a system that meets all my criteria in the aftermarket.

Why do it for just the looks, which (to each his own granted) comes up short for me.

With the M6 exhaust, it'll sound identical to how your car is right now, quiet, with the valves closed. On throttle with the valves open, you'll get a nice, deep tone, not raspy. As far as adding hp, probably negligible.

I actually am literally doing what I am doing mostly just for the looks. The M sport Mufflers with the rectangular exhaust tips just do not work with the new diffuser that I have on the car. They look great if you keep the standard M sport diffuser. The only tips that go now are quad tips that are either 3.5 inches or ideally 4 inches in diameter. I actually think the M sport exhaust sounds great wide open but unfortunately I cannot modify the muffler to accept 3.5 inch wide tips. The max that muffler can do is three inches.

I realize that Megan Racing makes a setup that I'm looking for at a very reasonable price but unfortunately, the exhaust note is a downgrade from the M sport bumpers in my opinion.

Hey, I apologize for the information, I thought it would essentially be the same as an M because the active sound has to be plugged in somewhere, it sounds weird if coding it is the only way to deactivate it but my drone was very aggressive on my turner muffler delete for my M5 and after disabling the active sound, there is basically no drone at all; the car is a lot quiet inside but on throttle it sounds amazing. A lot of drone to almost no drone by simply deactivating the active sound tells me the drone is amplified with the system.

It's funny...my dealership just told me that I definitely do have active sound in my car. This think is getting to be a big mystery! I think I read somewhere that the ASD may have been built into the amp so you can't really disconnect it. If so, coding may be the only option. Really happy to hear disabling it worked for you. Keeping my fingers crossed a little coding will fix my issue too.

I have been interested in learning more about it so that I could do it myself but at this point, I just want to find someone trustworthy on these forums that knows how to code F12's. I hear coding our 6 series is very similar to the F10. I will probably scour all the coding threads over the next day or so to find a poster who is trusted and can do remote coding at a reasonable price. Please let me know if you know someone already who fits that bill.

I had my wife's last car (F10) coded by Alex @ Alpine for $100. He did a great job and told me he can code pretty much any BMW from '07 on. Standout options included DVD in motion, idrive warning message delete, folding mirrors by key fob, auto door unlock. I bought an ENET cable but haven't gotten around to learning yet.

Thanks! This is exactly what I was looking for. Just emailed Alex. Just a quick search shows that he has helped a ton of people with coding. I did look at his menu for the F10's and disable Active Sound is not listed but I am going to keep my fingers crossed. I will give an update when I hear back.

Agreed...this thread has some very good information. To answer your question, here is a link to the tips. They were great quality and shipped very quickly.

Is there any update on this?

Also, anyone with experience or knowledge, would deleting both resonators but keeping the mufflers affect drone any differently? I've read/heard conflicting reports whether deleting the resonator only improves the sound or not.

I have no comments as to whether deleting the resonators would help or hurt the sound of drone. I have decided to get rid of the muffler delete and go with an exhaust system. I am waiting for it to be delivered right now. It would be good to hear if anybody else has done the resonator and muffler delete.
