New M6 Tyres Advice
Gentlemen - your advice please
I have just acquired a gorgeous M6 F12 CP in Sakhir Orange, OW Individual leather, CC brakes and black powder coated CP wheels, gloss black grilles etc. I will post pics v soon. BMW in their wisdom :roll eyes: have given me Pirelli tyres which I have read in this forum [somewhere!] are good but not as good as the Michelin Pilots. For me they do seem to make quite a lot of road noise on our sea-shell infused tarmac in the UK. What is your collective wisdom - should I stick to the Pirellis or reshoe in the Michelins? BTW I love the car - the poise and drive are exceptional, the interior gorgeous and the tech just so useable. Being an unusual combo it does seem to attract attention! |

Congrats, I too have a Sakhir Orange M6, it does attract a lot of attention. The Michelins seem to be the preferred tires on this forum, but for MY2015 forward, BMW has switched to the Pirellis. I believe this is because the Michelins are so hard to find when they need to be replaced. I myself am switching to Pirellis now as I am swapping the OEM wheels for aftermarkets and the Michelins will no longer fit. I'd say, if the Pirellis do bother you too much, and you can locate the Michelin PSS without issue, then swap them.

Here's an interesting read for you. These results couldn't be more lopsided between your two choices... http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...-sport-page-10 Michelin is ranked first in the segment, while Pirelli is ranked last. |

The 295/30 R20 are pretty hard to find, most places have no stock or only MO (Mercedes spec) stock, not sure what the difference is. LoveTyres were showing one.
You could try 305/30 R20 which seem to be much more readily available, not much difference in diameter and not much difference in price. The 265/35 R20s are not quite so hard to find, MyTyres have them, but still not exactly a common size. Again 275/35 R20s are easier to find. |

Pneus On Line are showing stock of both 295/30 R20 and 265/35 R20 PSS.

Yes there does seem to be some availability - as suggested the rear 295's are the most difficult to get.
The advice from the tyre co's seems to be not to go for the larger 305 tyre but stick with the recommended size for these specialist cars - I'm not sure if anyone else has tried upsizing and what the results were? I am also waiting on BMW Uk Customer service to see if I can get them to so a swap on the basis of safety in the wet at the very least. Their standard litany of 'we fit our cars with a range of approved tyres etc' has already been trotted out. |
