Launch Control or Skill?

Who's leaving the line using launch control?

I've personally never used LC. I leave in (my M1) MDM, suspension COMFORT, and all other settings on maxed. After i catch respectable traction i hit (my M2)DSC OFF, and alll other settings maxed out.

What are you guys using?

You know I never thought about switching from one setting to another under load or mid pull (m1 to m2). I feel like that takes time away and more importantly might hurt something. Who knows might be safe. Launch control is useless in the M6, too much torque and not enough traction so excessive wheel spin and tire smoke is the result of using launch control. I launch with MDM on and off foot break. Trans on lv2, smoother in my mind.

You need better tires. I launch with LC no traction systems on and I hook with over 650whp. 315/30/20 Nitto NT01 or 305/35/20 555R. On the stock Pirelli's the car was downright dangerous losing traction in every gear, bright side is now they are pulling 2.8sec 0-60 out of the new AWD M5, I'm counting the days to the end of my lease!

What rpm are you setting LC at?

I don't touch it, I just launch at the preset rpm which i think is right around 3k. Those tires made a world of difference and I even drive them in the rain cautiously, although I don't recommend it, I haven't had any issues or scares like hydroplaning or loss of traction.

Unfortunately no, I live in Socal where there are no decent tracks and the only one close to me is hours away, once you finally get there you are lucky to put in two runs. With drag radials it's a whole different ballgame, the oem tires were like driving on hard plastic compared to the Nittos. It's not just that you can launch better, but you can drop the car into second at 40-50mph and have traction all the way through the rpm band and before i would lose traction even in 3rd and 4th gears.

I switched to 315’s in the rear and makes all the difference in the world. Never tried LC, need to try with new tires. I used to feather the throttle but now I can smash and go. I’m also tuned with DP’s.

still on the zero's on stock size and you guys are right, that tire SUCKS. GOing to be upping the size to 305's and 4S's soon for better traction. Also, what is the launch control procedure? I remember it being super convoluted lol

Car warmed up to operating temps, all traction systems off, 1st gear in manual mode, foot on the brake, tilt the shifter forward and hold it you'll see the flag icon, fully depress the gas pedal, you can adjust the launch RPM from the steering wheel, take your foot off the brake and let go of the stick keeping the gas pedal depressed, off she goes

This car is tricky to launch, even with launch control depending on Tires/Mods.

I coded my M6 with Euro MDM mode (allows more wheel spin, before traction control kicks in compared to US MDM Settings)

I tried Nitto 555 G2's at 285/35/20 and they rubbed up front so I went back to 265/35's in the 555 G2.
