DIY Servicing

My car is due a service but has tipped over 50,000 miles and so the BMW service pack has now ended. Having replaced the discs and pads myself a few weeks ago, I am now up for doing an oil and filter change, air, fuel and microfilter (pollen filter) change and a brake fluid flush.

Question I have, is the brake fluid specification DOT4 or DOT5.1?

BTW, for anyone considering switching to EBC Redstuff (low dust) brake pads, I can thoroughly recommend them.

Interesting info about the brake pads Mark. My car is just two weeks old with less than 300 miles so presumably I wouldn't need new discs. Can you fit them without having to do anything with coding or the OBC (I'm assuming the pads have an electrical connector for the wear indicator, or is that old tech)?
Where did you get the parts?

You only technically need the laptop to reset the CBS. However having the laptop does make doing the rear pads a lot quicker.

The wear sensors just clip out of the old pads and into the new, though I fitted new.

With just 300 miles on yours, you should not even need to push the caliper pistons back in or wind back the rear electronic brake motor.

Here is my earlier post for how I did it

No coding required
