Grease on Wheel

A couple of weeks ago after going through the car wash there was a bit of grease on my left front wheel. Cleaned it up and figured must have been from vehicle in front of me or maybe on the car wash equipment. Didn't notice anyting further until today where there is a straight line of grease on the same wheel. It isn't a lot of grease just a little on one spoke. Any ideas of common causes?

Bearing seal or brake fluid? If it is brake fluid it can eat the finish on the wheel.
If it is thicker it is probably a bearing seal.

Either way I'd get it checked.

Mine was $1200 parts and labor. After market part for $400 or BMW OEM for $1600. I went after market.

Wait! Don't do after market. Drove car today and felt like a new car the ride was so smooth. However, when I turned the Steering wheel all the way left and turning in a circle, there was a clicking sound and felt like something was rubbing. Just get back from shop and the mechanic can not identify where the clicking or rubbibg is coming from. He believes there must be a difference in the after market part that it is not an exact fit. So he recommends the BMW OEM part for $1600. I asked what if it still has this problem after putting in BMW part. He says he can't return BMW part and that if it didn't do this before replacing the cv joint it has to be it, but no guarantee!

Any update on this? How many miles did you have on her? Was the CV Boot torn?
I'm surprised your Indi didn't offer up a remanufactured one. There is a well known company that remans these for German cars. It just sounds a bit odd.

There were 75K miles on the vehicle. I believe the boot was torn. Can something like that possible happen in a car wash? The only options given were after market or OEM. The new one is being installed as I type this. Is the well known company you refer to GKN?

Just picked up car - all good with OEM part. He doesn't trust remanufactured parts, new after market or OEM only.
