m6 whine noise

Hey all,

I own a 2014 m6 coupe, purchased it new two yrs ago. For about the last six months the car makes what is best described as a whining noise when the engine is cold, it is audible from inside as well as outside the car. It is most noticeable between 1-2k rpm, and as soon as the car dips below 1k rpm the noise stops completely. This will last for about 10-15 mins until the engine is warmed up. BMW can't diagnose it as of yet, just wondering if it's normal or if anyone has encountered the same thing. I will try to upload a clip. Any insight is greatly appreciated, thanks,

Phil

here is a link to my vid of the noise on youtube

pretty sure its not a normal noise, only started few months ago, the bmw engineer said it not supp to do that, they just haven't located it yet, just curious if anyone has experienced it, thinking maybe a faulty pump or something

I had a whining noise coming from the area of the front passenger seat---especially when I went fast.
Solved by going out on my own and leaving the wife behind

Bringing it in on Monday night, engineer will look on Tues. Will update on here as soon as I hear.

I've heard from a few m5/m6 owners with this exact noise, one was solved but most were not.

thanks - i had a similar noise a couple times in the past (not recently) but was never reproduced at dealer. I thought it was steering related at first or maybe a whining 'pump' or cold turbos - car definitely sounds different cold vs hot.

be interesting to hear what they find and if/how they resolve it.

Sry for the delay, I had to go back and drive it with the tech to reproduce the noise. They kept the car a week but could not pinpoint where the noise was coming from. Said they were going to cold start a few m5's and m6's as they come in to compare, have not heard back as of yet. I will post if I hear back from them. Have you experienced the same noise?

mine has made similar noise a few times - only on cold driving (the first 1/2 mile from house) and it goes away after minute or so. Also doesn't seem happen if i let it warm up for a few minutes before driving which is the usual. it happens really randomly so after asking about it once (they suggested turbo spool but its not) I didnt ask again.

hopefully they can diagnose yours.

Any updates on this? I got the whining noise this morning after starting and driving off. The noise went away 5 mins of driving. I usually let the car idle for a few minutes before driving off but I was late this morning. Doesnt happen when i let the car idle before pulling off.
