M6 Dash Vs regular 6
Any idea why the regular 6 series dash has a futuristic looking digital dash when the more expensive m6 has the more dated analog display?
Is it to show that the M6 has a closer heritage to the past or are they just waiting to give the m car a digital dash later down the road so it looks like a new feature? |

Only the M Sport Edition 6 has the new digital dash. I personally think it is gimmicky and much prefer the older analog dash*. I'm sure all BMWs will eventually switch to the digital dash however.
* Some of the gauges are even harder to read on the digital dash. Unfortunately.

But seriously I wish all M cars keep having that "dated analog display" FOREVER After all the digital revolution and having ECU, Automatic transmission, driver's assistance, all drivers aids, all electronic circuits, etc... the only thing is left from the real "man vs machine" is that analog display... I know in 10 years everything will be changed and cars drive by themselves... No driving enjoyment and no driving challenge...

The 7 series is getting a new digital cluster, I am guessing the 6 will get that one in a year or two. But then again, I don't think any of the M's have a digital cluster, right?

I agree that the current BMW one is gimmicky, but the ones I have had on other cars can be customized to show a lot of different things that can be useful. That being said, I would rather have a bigger HUD that could be customized.

Still, what would BMW do with their "Ultimate Driving Machine" trademark if the car drove you? Then again, I remember a Top Gear episode where a BMW drove Jeremy around their track at high speed. Have you seen the Remote Parking Assistant in the new 7? BMW has a video out on You Tube that shows the presenter standing outside the garage and the car automatically pulls itself out for you. The remote has an interactive LCD display. |

Yeah but I don't see it being that useful, unless it can also turn the car. For example if there was a column or car behind you, and it can get your car out of the parking spot while avoiding the other obstacles. If it just goes straight back, I can't imagine myself in many situations where it's needed. |
