There is something magical about BMW build quality. Everything is so solid like it was carved off 1 steel block. I remember driving my friend's E36 328is 15 years ago, and it has always been the reason for me to look forward to my work the next day.

I know exactly what you mean. Once you sit in, everything feels hard, solid and planted...and all in a good way.

Brake diameter should never be a reason not to buy a car.

So the 6GC is the new 5.. ?? LOL.. I can't believe he actually liked the steering, a great thing for BMW. The 550 had Mercedes steering when I tested it back in 2011.

Not surprised that the CLS ended in 3rd place at all. The styling looks blended and unattractive with a 'cold', low quality interior. This seems to be what MB is heading these days with their entire line up.

The S7 is a very nice car, but the 6GC just looks more expensive and special inside out. I was expecting the 6 to outperform the S7 with the number it is making though.

That, uncomfortably, is a possibility!

The 6 GC is clearly a nice car, and I enjoyed my test drive of a 640 GC more than I thought I would (compared to a similar drive in an F10 550). However, as has been highlighted above, BMWs 6 GC pricing strategy is insane. Were I in the market for such a car (and I have been a BMW loyalist since 1999), I'd purchase the S7 and put $30K in my bank account.

The price of the 6gc just can not be justified in my mind. I do like its interior but that's its only positive aspect imo. I just wish BMW and car makers in general would try cutting down on the weight.

Umm, like rusty seats (BMW F30)? :-/

I don't know...interior is decent and all, but for a price that is about 20K more than competition, they need to do better...lose weight, outperform the competition, etc. And how is this a 5 seater?

Everytime I see the U.S prices I die a little in the inside. I just don't know how they can sell these cars that cheap and over here the E-Class/A6/5 series are more expensive than the CLS/A7/6GC.

I actually tested all these cars before picking up my 650i GC. It is 20k above let's say CLS because they offer options such as B&O audio, Napa Leather, rear and side power sunshades, 4 zones climate control, etc. CLS 550 is not offering any of that. CLS offers Designo which is Napa option equivalent on BMW, but there is none with that option on the lot. Also, BMW M package is $4k by itself. Price wise, they are very similar if similarly equipped. Audi is not bad, but ride quality is definitely not its strong point. I prefer CLS and 6 series over Audi when cruising which is what this car was meant for.

It is a 4 + 1 configuration. Middle rear seat is not accommodating, but it is there if needed with proper safety belt.

This is a grand touring class, so it is less of a priority to shed weight. For example, SUV class for the longest time never competes in weight until recently due to MPG concern. In fact, latest Mercedes M class is not in anyway light, and Mercedes were not shy about it.

IMO, BMW is making a very well rounded car. From engineering stand point, it is a very difficult spot to be in because they have to compromise so much yet try to shine on all aspects. I can only say that in order for them to achieve such a solid feel car and still perform wonderfully is quite an engineering achievement.

That is a terrible pic of the 650i GC, front looks ugly. Honestly, no way in hell the BMW is worth the price difference over the other two.

CLS still catches more eyes on the road.

$115k for a 6 series gran coupe is a joke...not really a fair comparison here.

For $115k...I wouldn't take either of those 3 cars.

M5...CLS63...end of story.

You are right. Frankly, I was torn between CLS63 and 650i GC. I love the look of the new CLS, and the sound from AMG exhaust is very intoxicating. To me, there is something so attractive about BMW driving experience. Plus, I like technology in BMW better than in the CLS.

yes! if that the case, then M6 GC and CLS63 would be my daily driver. Pagani Huayra would be my douche mobile for the weekend.

Might look into getting used 640i gc or 650i gc 3-4 yrs down the road for a good price if everything works out. Hopefully they can shed some pounds in the coming yrs

... So the most expensive (by 20k!) wins against the competition?

While I applaud automotive magazines from taking a look at this from a simple mechanical standpoint, I wish they would take a look as to what you get for your money. Put the 650 Gran Coupe against the CLS AMG. The AMG STILL costs less once you put any decent options on the 650 GC, and you get a whole heck of a lot more with the MB.

Im sorry BMW. You lost this comparo IMO.
