Ambient Lighting Control

Is there meant to be an ambient lighting menu in iDrive to control colour etc? I've seen it on other cars with the ambient lights. If not I wonder if it can be coded in?

I noticed this too as I had it on my f31. You could have white or orange and it could be adjusted.

Can you change the color direct in drive or do you have to code it?

I assume that because the idrive menu is not there you would need to code it. I might pop out to the car later and give it a go

I went out to mess about with the coding. No matter what I did nothing changed. From reading I assume that the 6 series only has single colour leds therefore the module I'm coding won't have any effect as it's under colour switching. I might be wrong though.

Also I was hoping to increase the min brightness to make them brighter but that didn't work either. Perhaps someone else knows better but I think this is the way.

Changed my NBT boot up logo to m performance though which is nicer.

the GC ambient lighting is horrible. Its not bright enough at all , even at the highest setting. I had an F10 before and it was bright as hell.

Bumping an old thread. Has anyone messed with this recently? I just got the Bimmercode app and couldn't find a setting in the coding to increase the brightness at all. It is woefully dim in my F13 and a feature that I'd like to be a lot more noticeable as picky as that may be.

Mine is dim too in my f06. I'm about to change the floor mat lights to white led but the red ambient is very dim

I think it depends what interior you have. The lighting in my beige F10 looked much brighter than the black F06

That's true. I can barely see it with my red interior.

I'm going to swing by the dealership tomorrow for another issue and I'll ask if I can get any software/ecu/module updates, a F10 owner said that made a difference.

Interested in what they say. I have the red interior as well and it's dim

I asked generally if I could get any available updates for the ECU/iDrive/module and they said they don't do that unless I have a specific problem. So then I said that I heard a software update will make the ambient light brighter. The foreman wasn't willing to give it a try.

I'll call up another nearby dealer and ask about the ambient light specifically next time. I'll also probably buy the most recent Nav update DVD and ask for the footwell module and iDrive to be updated as well (I think the FRM controls all the interior lighting?).

In my old 328i coupe I used blue LED strips in the foot wells powered by the USB jack in the glovebox. In the 6 series manual it specifically says not to plug fans, lights, external storage, etc into the USB jacks, is there really any harm with that?

It'll be a bit of a challenge to hide the wires, but I'm considering adding LED strips to the foot wells again. I know it's a tad cheesy in a car this expensive, but ambient light is definitely an accepted trend nowadays.

If I don't use the USB jack, I'm not exactly sure where where I can draw the constant power from. Any ideas?
