buying a used 2012 F12

Hey guys, this is my first post here.

Im on the fence between picking one of these two. I never had a BMW and currently I have a rav4. one thing I heard its reliability is terrible and its going to be pain in the a$$ buying a preowned BMW.

White :

2012 640i
22885 on odometer
2 owner
was a leased car
second owner had it for just 1 month! (I scared of this! maybe it has serious problem!)
clean car fax (no maintenance recorded!)
in dealer ship since november(why!?)
$46000 before taxes
noticeable option: HUD (grey one does not have), HK sound

Grey:

2012 640i
23235 on odometer
1 owner
clean car fax (4 times maintenance performed)
in dealership for 110 days
$44500 before taxes
no noticeable option

I came across to these 2 models. both have clean car faxes but the grey one has 4 times maintenaces while the white one shows no maintenance! it made me doubt.

which one is more loaded in your opinion?

personally I like the white color. I like its orange interior more than black. but the grey one looks more wise. I totally confused dudes please help me

The white one also has LED headlights, whilst the grey model has the normal xenons...

White is the one to go for. N55 engined models are also quite reliable, so wouldn't be worried about that.

so should I be worry about the power train or (drivetrain?)problems? I read it somewhere they all have this issue!

it seems the white has more options right?

The white one is quite a nicely kitted example. As I said, N55 has been around for a while, is shoved in just about anything in the BMW stable, and is reliable.

If the car is not CPO take out some sort of aftermarket warranty and you're sorted.

Cerified pre-owned. BMW's used car program where a vehicle will be sold with a comprehensive warranty. I think, I'm not in the US.

You can use Kelly Blue Book (www.kbbreport.com) or NADA (http://www.nadaguides.com/) to check if their prices are fair, etc.

Agree with the warranty thing. Make sure it is Certified Pre Owned.

The F13/F12 uses the N63/N63tu motor. There has been known reliability issues with the N63 motor. Just look up "N63 problems" on Google.
Those cars you have listed above most likely have the N63 and if I had known this I would have thought 2x before picking up my 650i.
I've heard that the 640i is more reliable than the 650i.

If your set on a 6 series just make sure its a N63tu. And if are going to chose these 2 cars, make sure the dealer has performed the "N63 recall" beforehand.

Er, no. Both of the cars in the OP are 640i, therefore neither has an N63 motor. They both have the N55 motor.

I checked the engine code for 640i.

it is N55HP since 2011 to present.

Im still worry about the car fax (white one) which does not show any maintenance performed!(despite of grey one which has 4 times maintenance) I asked the dealer and he said:

Quote:
BMW offers a 50K full bumper to bumper warranty and maintenance for free on all of their cars, so there is no reason why someone would not maintain the car correctly when it's free, just not all stores are a carfax member, so not all stores report everything specially in the bigger cities!
What is your opinion about above statement?

True statement. Example. . . I sold a '11 Infiniti QX56 a little over a year ago that I had religiously maintained/serviced at one of the largest Infiniti dealers in the Philadelphia area. I saw the Car Fax report when I sold it and none of the maintenance had been reported in the entire 3+ years I owned it.

Can I extend its warranty? and if yes, how much it would costs?

Dealer of the white one is a super small dealer in a small town.

is there any other tips/hints to be considered?

Dudes,

Why the second owner of white one had it for just one month? probably dealer won't tell the truth, so how can I make sure if it is ok or not?

What sound system are installed?! There is nothing written or any logo on the grills!

Maybe he didn't like it?

Get the VIN of the car and run it in one of the BMW VIN decoders available on the net, that will tell you which sound the car has.

So it seems he was lying to me!

Dudes, also there is another option to consider but about $8k more expensive rather the mineral white one (this one is alpine white), but this one is fully loaded as well

-soft close door
-ventilated seats
-HUD
-M package
-better seats (not sure what it is called)
-full led adaptive lights
-20" wheels
-mileage 27.5 (5k more!)
-2013 and warranty until march 17

here is the pics:

the interior looks is not well cared at all!

dealer asked for 54k. I offered him 43K and he became mad at me! later I send another email and I said I'd pay 50k with all fees and & taxes included he has not answered yet.
I think I can get it no more less than 51k before taxes!

so do you think this one worth the other one?

Could be for any number of legit reasons.

I had an old X6 which I PX'd back with the dealer after 5 days as I just didnt like it! Things like having to put the key into the dash to start it etc just annoyed me too much and I got rid

Does warranty cover its maintenance costs? If the answer is no, how much its maintenance cost usually!
