I'm not so sure that a 4GC would even make it to the states (the a5 sportback never did). They will test the waters with this 6GC first.
bmw does not ever follow audi so apologies for the disagreement. BMW could care less about younger buyers in this marketplace, they have come out with the 1er for entry level buyers which is now comparable to the a4, its not the case anymore that that a4 and 3er are in the same class, they arent.

And I can say with 100% certainty that the US will be getting the 4GC, its already been announced if you read closely, and there will be an M model, which will be my next next car, im getting the f30 335i in the interim. Good times to be had in the future with some of the bmw offerings on the way.

6CG is here to stay, it may one day replace the need for the 7er actually as that thing has seen its day and its too old school to be necessary anymore, you can get a 5er thats 95% the size of it with the same options and its cheaper, they may even one day bring the 5er Li across and then the naile would be sealed forever for the 7er.

Just because there is a price difference doesn't mean you can't compare them. The CLS500, S7, and 650GC are all sleek 4 door "coupes" with turbo V8 engines. Why wouldn't those be compared?

I'm sorry, but the 1 series does not compete with the A4. The A4/S4 comes as a sedan and touring model which competes directly with the 3 series sedan and touring models. The 1 series in its hatchback forms would compete with Audi's A3/S3.

The F20 doesn't compete with the A4. The F30 does.

We will never see an M4 GC in the states either, I am pretty sure Scott already confirmed this 6+ months ago.

And you just dont understand that BMW has move this up market, its a big car, and the 6er GC is a car as big as the 7er but with contoured seating for 4 in luxury, much more luxurious than the 7er actually if you look at the interior options. This car is an exact comparo to the Panny, its much larger than the CLS or a7, and priced accordingly.
I really would like to know how you are coming up wtih "much larger than the CLS or A7" the 6 GC is 2 inches longer, same width, and an inch shorter in height. so its 1% longer of a car, and that makes it much larger

No it does not, 3er has moved upclass from the e46 to f30. The new 3 is the old 5, but the a4 is still the same size as its been for a decade

i'm not sure what you're smoking, but i'll take some of that.

the a4 and 3er are, and will always be, fierce competitors in the exact same class....Not to mention that bmw bringing out a "4 series" is totally a copied concept off of what audi did with the A5. Its another way to make more $ with less production/development costs.

Hey, we're all bimmerphiles here, but give audi their due for what they did. It doesnt mean we like their products.

bmw would not make a model that would kill off another line. that is stupid. Besides with the S-Class and LS460 being such strong sales leaders, the 7 series has to go after that market. The 6GC is not in that vein.

Hey, we're all bimmerphiles here, but give audi their due for what they did. It doesnt mean we like their products.

Apologies for the mis state, i just look/view the a4/a3 as no longer comparable to the 3er since its moved upscale in terms of its offering. Teh audi only offers a small engine, front wheel drive or all wheel drive which limits how I categorize a true sports saloon which the 3er certainly is.

While I dont agree with the 4er badging either, im not sure how it equates to more$$ with less r&D? If anything based on the info presently available, there will be more r&d spent now that there is a 3er and 4er since the 4er will also have a 4door variant and the additional costs to develop the GC...

Which decade are you referring to?

2001 B5 A4: 175 in.
2011 B8 A4: 185.2 in.
Delta: 11.2 inch increase in length

2001 E46 325i: 176 in.
2012 F30 328i: 182 in.
Delta: 6 inch increase in length

1-series competes with the A3. 3-series competes with the A4.

He had an update in january and gave new info, nothing about this not coming to the US. The US is the largest market for M, they make cars for us specifically, so if there is any M car coming out, it will certainly make it to our shores.

Concerning the petrol engines, look at it this way:

The 328i with the new 2.0l turbo inline 4 (N20) competes with the A4 and its 2.0l turbo inline 4. I don't believe Audi's old 3.2l V6 is available anymore.

The 335i with the 3.0l turbo inline 6 competes with the S4 and its 3.0l supercharged V6.

The former RS4 and now RS5 compete with the current M3.

Theres often not that much difference in size, but that does make all the difference, here is some details to ponder:

6er GC
Length = 197.125
WB = 116.850
Wide = 74.5669
Hi = 54.80
Track FR = 62.99
Rear = 65.55

5er F10
Length = 192.874
Wide = 73.22
WB = 116.850
Hi = 57.6377

7er F01 (non Li)
Length =199.685
WB = 120.86
Wide = 74.88 / w/mirr= 84.01
Track = 64.96

CLS
WB =113.2
Length =194.5
Wide/mir= 81.7 (estimate wide at 72)

tech specs taken from official sites for BM and MB, cls only lists dimensions for width inclusive of mirrors, so i looked at 7er with mirrors for general comparison, and they are about 10" total for both sides, so subtracted 10" from the cls width to come to est of 72

my point originally was the the 6er GC is closer to the 7er in size than the 5er, and that the CLS is closer to the 5er than the 7er, therefore...GC is a bigger car...

All I have to say is..

Wait till you see the S7 and potentially the RS 7, you'll forget all about the GC

RS 7 = M6 GC killer, IMO. Specs will be relatively the same, same price category..

I think you are confusing the Gran Coupe with the Gran Turismo.
It is almost certain the US will see a 4er Gran Coupe but with reaction to the 5er GT ,BMW might see no reason to import a 3er GT.

That is a mentality that several of you have to reconsider. BMW make automobiles to satisfy enthusiasts in a global market. There is no longer any more specifics. It is now a global market and global demands reflect the product options.

I doubt this. The M6 GC may even have a slight horsepower bump over the F12/F13 M6 due to the additional weight.

Also the standard 650i GC will have 440hp/480 ft lbs - which should be able to handily dispense it's rivals. If not there is always DINAN LOL

Just my two cents of course

Which M cars have been made for the US specifically? There have been a few M cars that didn't come to the US such as the:

E30 M3 Sport Evo
E46 M3 CSL
E92 M3 GTS
E90 M3 CRT
