The newer 3 spoke sport steering wheel is a bit thinner than the original M Sport Steering wheel. To be honest, I preferred the thicker version that we had in our e70 X5 but for those the prefer something in-between, the 3 spoke might be the way to go.

That clarifies it, thanks. It's because you have the window up that gives the illusion of a transparent wind blocker behind the front seats.
If you don't have one I'd highly recommend it. The factory item is made of a nylon mesh which flips up behind your head and significantly reduces air recirculation and buffeting with the roof down.
