Black rims in matte or high gloss finish

Hi everybody,

I am getting my original 20" wheels painted in black within 2 weeks, do you have any photos of black wheels in a matte, satin or high gloss finish on a black car?

Thanks!

I think gloss black will look the best. Debating if I should powdercoat mine as well.

I vote high gloss black, unless you are going wrap your car matt black.....

But then, there is also BMW Liquid Black, or black chrome

I'm going to paint mine gloss black as well. But first I'm gonna plasti dip them to see if I like it or not. Plasti dip now offers a gloss coat you can put on to make it shine.

IND did a couple of photo shoots of my car ("Haute M"). Its an Alpine White convertible with Gloss Black wheels (BMW painted the original M wheels).

I chose to do a gloss black finish because there is gloss black trim already on the car (around windows etc).

You can find photos and such at the following two links:

I chose flat/satin black on my HRE's---- the main reason is gloss becomes ugly with the BMW brake dust within a few stops. Gloss reminds me of a black car, looks great right after the wash but that ends shortly.

Sorry its not a black car.

I've always preferred the wet look of the Gloss back finish...

Thank you all for your comments and photos, I have chosen to paint them gloss black. Wheels are currently at the paintshop but will post a photo when fitted them back again. Cheers!

I pay $400 to get any of wheels powdercoated gloss....and the guys always have done a top-notch job. I realize most places charge $500-600.

Gloss black are the best looking by far. Vic, I'm surprised you feel that way about the gloss....I would think the matte look worse. I have had gloss black on many cars and they always look great....never had an issue with brake dust.

That's crazy overpriced, I got my OEM rims powdercoated in matte black for only $300 or $400...

IMHO gloss black looks the best, it allows the wheels to "pop"

Still think the Gloss looks much better. Matte just looks more brake dust...

Also, you need to paint those silver wheel weights (just mask and spray).

Same for the silver/grey valve stems. For those, simply use shrink tubing and a blow dryer to shrink around the stems. Cut them long and then trim them back after shrinking. For best durability, use shrink tubing which has a heat activated internal adhesive... Then add some black plastic valve stem caps...

Mine were semi gloss black powdercoated. I just got them redone...I powdercoated them Gloss Black and like it much better...Theyre not on the car, have aftermarket Gloss black wheels but nonetheless like the Gloss a lot better...

Average cost is about $50-$75 a wheel and then mount/dismount and balance a tire.
So around $400 is pretty fair in price for all 4
