Warm up engine b4 drive?

Does anyone get the engine to running temp - ie sitting in garage/driveway to get oil up to temp before heading out?

on a cold morning, yes I do ( be it my M6s or S63 AMGs). Reason being is in about 1.5 km from my garage I have to make a left turn from a stop sign onto the highway and merge at speeds of 100 km/hour (62 miles/hour).

Not sure if it necessary with the current S63 engine in the current M6, but for my 2007 M6 cab with the V10, my BMW dealer service department and the owners manual recommended it as the red line on the tac adjusted up as the engine and oil heated ... That engine did not have hydrolic lifters and if too cold you could do some damage to the cam shafts if you rev'd it above the indicated adjusting red line ... At least what I remember. It became a habit ... May not be the most green choice ... And not sure if totally necessary on the new twin turbo engines if only merely to heat up he engine block

Garage List
I always do if I can. The warmer the oil, and everything else, gets, the easier it's going to be on the engine.

not much warm up with the f1x m6.
when bmw m used the castrol tws 10w-60 engine oil, i always had to spend some time for the engine to warm up.
after bmw m switched to 0w-30, the warm up time is significantly shortened.
i usually start driving after the cats heat up sequence is completed.

The best way to warm up the car is to keep the rpm down and drive for a little bit. When the car is stationary, only the engine is running, the rest of the car like the gearbox not really warming up.

I generally avoid going over 3000rpm for the first few miles.

I read somewhere that it is not healthy to let the car warm up while idling cuz its taking way longer than driving it "softly",
best thing for the engine is keeping the warm up process as short as possible but also keeping rpmīs low till the oil reaches operating temps.

I for myself drive it in manual mode after start up and keep revs in the 2000-2500 rpm range for the first 3-5 mins.
After that i switch back to D and keep driving until i see the Oil gauge moving, as soon as thats the case i switch to M1 (MDM, S3) while still dont going WOT until target temp is reached.
