Closing the trunk
The trunk is too hard to close. Grabbing the underside of the trunk and trying to pull it down to close feels like Im about to chop off my hand in the motion. And pushing down on the top isnt pleasant. Is there a way to loosen the spring strength or something?

I've done my fair share of complaining about the lack of a power trunk over the last 2 years (both on these forums and to BMW). I'm used to it now and have nailed the motion to get it to latch the first time without looking like an idiot. I use the right grip hole and pull down and back with my right hand. I don't use the left because I'm right handed, my watch is on my left (worried about scratches), and I once yanked out the light on the left side in the process of pulling it shut.
While I have gotten it down to a science, it is still pretty embarassing when the soccer mom in her Honda Odyssey next to me gracefully pushes a button to close the back while I'm standing behind my $100k Bimmer slamming the trunk praying I don't (a) smash my hand, (b) scratch the paint, or (c) pull it too softly so the damn thing pops back open. I think the convertibles close more easily with the aid of gravity whereas the coupe has the stiff pop up mechanism working against us. There are a couple videos on my YouTube channel (link is in the signature) showing the trunk operation if you're interested.

my cab is super easy. maybe the coupes are harder to close. I thought I heard the new ones coming out will have it though. that would be a popular mod

I have probably bitched about this glaring omission more than anybody else, and I have not even taken delivery yet. But it interesting during my Euro delivery, my delivery advisor
had it down pat, pulled it down and then used the back of her hand to push it closed. I asked why no power/soft close and she looked puzzled and just said she didn't know. To me this is the one design screw up on the 6er - and they won't correct it. Amazing. |

No real info LCI coming for '15. And unless BMW gets rids of the trick rear camera I don't think it will happen.

She used her hand to close it? I think I'd ask for another one. lol
In a showroom it's one thing, but real world is another. Even a day or two after washing my car the back of the car has picked up a fair bit of dirt, pollen, etc. I certainly don't want to touch that crap, and (more importantly) I don't think my Carbon Black paint can take that abuse long term. It's definitely worth getting the motion down using the inside pull holes. It is, however, a little problematic if I have to back into a tight spot up against a wall.

You said in a previous post you thought she was good looking (but you weren't paying attention)( right!) Wouldn't it have answered so many questions and issues if you had made a video of this one handed technique (still talking about trunk lid)? |

It's not the closing mechanism. The camera motor occupies the same space as the soft close pull-down motor, which is required with a power boot lid.

Figured there was a reason that auto trunk closer not included in 6er...Must be an alternate design idea in order to include both

I think it should be leather, at least.
